More Thoughts on Jack Franks and Congressional Ambitions

This is a continuation of yesterday’s thoughts about State Rep. Jack Franks’ future political plans.

Jack Franks was interviewed by Fox on Rod Blagojevich.

Jack Franks’ enjoys being on national TV.  He loves the national stage.

But Franks’ getting softball questions about

  • Roland Burris’ impeachment/appointment,
  • Rod Blagojevich’s impeachment/convictions and
  • the 67% income tax hike fellow Democrats supported

is small potatoes when compared with the rapid fire hostile questions from liberal interviewers put to Joe Walsh

Joe Walsh hit Chirs Matthews' hard balls right back at the mound.

Surely Walsh’s performances would have convinced Franks to give Walsh a wide berth…until yesterday’s widespread coverage of Walsh’s ex-wife’s court claim that he owes over $100,000 in child support and alimony.

While Walsh is not a man Franks would have wanted to debate anymore than incumbent Melissa Bean did, now the alimony-child support problem will have Franks re-thinking his options.

However, with this personal financial problem, Walsh might not win the GOP primary in the 14th Congressional District in which Franks lives.

If Franks has done his research, however, he knows that the other possible Republican opponent, Randy Hultgren, is no slouch in the campaigning department.

One does not beat the son of a former U.S. House Speaker and take out an incumbent Democrat, as Hultgren did, if one does not know a lot about campaigning.

So I figure the risk-aversive Franks to run for re-election. That’s the safest bet to stay in the public eye.

Nevertheless, Franks is obviously restive. He thinks he deserves a larger stage.

His problem is that he cannot win a statewide Democratic Party primary.

While endorsed by Personal PAC, the radical pro-abortion political action committee, my guess is that its Executive Director Terry Cosgrove is still uncomfortable with Franks.

So, what’s that leave, assuming he doesn’t want to risk his future in a very Republican congressional district?

State Senate when (if) Pam Althoff retires.

And, a Federal judgeship.

Lot’s of prestige with the latter post and the commute to Rockford would be manageable.

The problem with getting appointed to the bench is that Franks backed Hillary Clinton for President, rather than Barack Obama, the home state guy.

Maybe if the Franks family raises enough money this time around for the President, he would be willing to let bygones by bygones.

I’ve read other Chicago-area millionaires are not stepping up to the plate as bunglers as they did four years ago.
