The Walsh Child Support – Day 2

The front page article in the Chicago Sun-Times that appeared the day before the debt ceiling vote.

Keeping up with the coverage of the Chicago Sun-Times story about Congressman Joe Walsh’s ex-wife’s court action to collect $117,000 in what she claims is back child support is impossible.

The highest profile freshman Congressman is experiencing nationwide coverage of the Sun-Times’ revelation.

I missed getting a photo of perhaps the most significant coverage yesterday.  I’m told the Northwest Herald ran a front page story.  Nothing especially surprising about that.

But I’m told there was an ad for Jack Franks’ law firm stuck just below the article.  (If anyone still has a front page with that on it, I’d appreciate a photo of it.)

I’m wondering if that was just happy coincidence or a pre-paid arrangement in which the Franks’ firm’s ad was scheduled to be put on any front page with a negative Joe Walsh article.

I know.  I’m just too suspicious.

In any event, Friday the Chicago Sun-Times ran a page 3 story about Walsh’s response to its Thursday front page article.

The article points out that the court document was just discovered by reporter Abdon Pallasch Tuesday.  Lynn Sweet, who wrote a negative piece on Walsh July 22nd, the Friday before.

The strong implication was that the front page expose was not the “hit piece” as Walsh labeled it.

Scooped on the story, the Chicago Tribune ran its article on page 5.

The Chicago Tribune ran its "catch up" article on Joe Walsh's ex-wife's back child support claims on Friday, July 29, 2011.

The Walsh Child Support – Day 2 — 2 Comments

  1. Please! A hit piece? Does Walsh owe back child support? The answer to that is yes, as Walsh has admitted; the dispute seems to be over the amount that is owed. Call it what you will, the guy is a deadbeat dad, and all the squealing in the world over being the target of a ‘hit piece’ is irrelevant.

Rep Walsh: “Have you no shame, Sir?” (Quoted from Walsh’s taped statement to the president.) The obvious answer to that is ‘no.’

  2. and the moral of the story? Well, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
