I went to the Lake in the Hills Labor Day Weekend Festival parade Saturday morning. (Actually, I see it is called Summer Sunset Fest.)
There were so many politicians courting voters last year, I thought I’d see who thought it worthwhile to go in the year before partisan elections.
There will be another Labor Day before the fall elections, but this was it for those wishing to make an impression prior to the March primary balloting.
Only Republicans showed up to show the flag.
First in line was McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi.
Plenty of volunteers for him.
First there were young people handing out candy.
Next came adults handing out a booklet of some kind, maybe a coloring book.
One of the tee shirts had a different message on back–an anti-drug message.
The next political entry was the Kurtzmobile.
Consisting of a bicycle with a seat on front and pulling a wagon with Donna Kurtz for County Board signs, the vehicle was a long way behind was preceded it.
People couldn’t see what the contraption was all about from the front because there was no sign. From the side, however, the purpose was clear.
Next came a group supporting State Rep. Mike Tryon.
Teens were handing out candy for the children.
There was a convertible, but the State Representative was not in it.
Tryon accomplished his purpose for the parade and that was maintaining name identification.
Next I recognized newly-appointed State Rep. Kent Gaffney.
I didn’t see any signs with his name and I didn’t figure out what he was handing out.
I saw McHenry County Board member Tina Hill’s name on tee shirts so I started looking for her.
I found her in the back of a pick-up truck. This year’s photo is not as good as last year’s. I guess she was moving faster this year.
Next I saw John Jung, the Vice Chairman of the McHenry County Board.
And, that was it for the partisan politicians.
There was no vehicle from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department.
Last year, there were
- four motorcycles (two from the McHenry County Conservation District),
- a convertible with Keith Nygren and his wife Marge,
- a “Community Relations” SUV pulling
- a “Crime Prevention” trailer.
No entry this year.
Neither was there any contingent from the McHenry County Democratic Party.
We don’t need a Democratic Party in McHenry County, the Republicans are the spenders here.
