Here We Go Again

A Chicago Tribune story just popped up about the Chicago Bears wanting still another public stadium, this one doomed.

The article points out that bonds for neither the the current Chicago White Sox stadium nor the renovated Soldier Field have been paid off.

Chicagoans, according to a 500-person poll, are all in:

“A poll showed that 80% of Chicagoans support a museum campus location, and 77% want to keep the team in the city, the source said.

“The poll of 500 registered voters by McGuire Research also found 60% of Chicagoans support using public money for a publicly owned stadium.”

The piece adds,

“Economists generally warn against publicly financed stadiums as a bad investment….”

The Chicago Bears are willing to pony up $2 billion.

The plan proposes to tear down most of Soldier Field, except the collanades and war memorial to create more open space.

  1. Let’s not make the same mistake that Los Angeles made, which completely became a backwater ghost town during their 1995-2015 NFL-less years.

  2. Let’s hope that this pitch for a new publicly funded stadium is doomed.
