Crystal Lake attorney Joe Gottemoller has announced he will seek the office of McHenry County Board member for District 3 in the 2012 election.

Gottemoller, 54, has been practicing law for 29 years and is a partner in the firm of Madsen, Sugden& Gottemoller in Crystal Lake.

He has earned the highest possible rating for ethical and professional standards based upon a survey of his peers conducted by Martindale Hubble.

“Most of us have seen our property values go down and our taxes go up,” said Gottemoller.

“Each and everyone of us has to live within a budget, which means when the economy is bad we have had to reduce our budgets.

“I believe McHenry County needs to operate on the same principal and reduce the budget instead of increase taxes.”

Since moving to Crystal Lake in 1984, Gottemoller has established himself as an expert in zoning and municipal law.

Through his work he has developed working relationships with the County and most municipalities in McHenry County.

He has served on the McHenry County Conservation (District) Board and several other boards and commissions.

His most recent work included membership on the McHenry County Conservation Design Ordinance ad hoc committee. This committee received the McHenry County Defenders’ Theta Award for Environmental Excellence in 2009.

“Today McHenry County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family, but there are many issues that the county board members must address if they are to keep it that way.” said Gottemoller.

“Issues such as the immediate need to create local jobs, the ongoing need to protect our open spaces and water resources, and the growing need to improve our transportation system are significant challenges.

“If given the chance I believe my experience will help tackle these and other important issues for McHenry County’s citizens.”

Gottemoller received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and his law degree from American University in Washington D.C. To learn more about Gottemoller’s legal experience visit www.mchenrycountylaw.com.

  1. It is a shame that he was not picked for Associate Judge. We are all worse off because of that.
