Is the Offer to Buy the Grafton Township Hall Lot Off the Table?

A month and a half ago, the Grafton Township Board discussed selling the land purchased by the previously Township Trustees and Supervisor.

An offer had been made and was discussed in open session, but Supervisor Linda Moore would not reveal its contents.

The night the Grafton Township Board decided that $100,000 was not a high enough price for the empty lot on Haligus Road.

Was it the American Muslim Community Organization that wanted to build a mosque on the property?

Moore would say?

So, I filed a Freedom of Information request.

It was rejected, so I filed an appeal with the Public Counselor of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

They have way too many complaints to act swiftly. For instance, I have one appeal that was filed about 18 months ago on which no ruling has been made.

To my surprise, one day my most recent Freedom of Information request was granted.

Into my email inbox popped a copy of the purchase offer from the American Muslim Community Organization.

The price the organization was willing to pay was $100,000.

I haven’t heard of any other offers.

At the last September meeting, the Township Board voted to make a counter offer of $120,000.

I’m guessing it was too high for the religious group’s budget.
