Rep. Joe Walsh Takes a Stand on Spending

Votes NO on Megabus

WASHINGTON- Today, Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) voted against the Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 2055), which increases the budget by more than $1 billion over last year’s levels, spends more than the agreed upon $1.019T budget level established in the House Budget Resolution, and adds more to the national debt.

Walsh has consistently opposed past legislation that does not offer drastic spending cuts and an honest effort to balance the budget.

Walsh stated: “The American people sent a clear message last November – they are tired of Washington’s reckless, out-of-control spending.

“Congress has failed to listen. In the past year, we have been on the brink of a government shutdown seven times.

“Each and every time, Congress has ignored their responsibility to pass a balanced budget and to pass a budget on time.

“The plan passed today once again shows just how out-of-touch Congress is.

“This ‘megabus’ is an attempt by Speaker Boehner to work with a President and Senate that is unwilling to budge on wasteful spending and financial irresponsibility.

“While I applaud Speaker Boehner for his leadership, this bill is not enough.

“I came to Washington to change the way this town does business and to get our fiscal house in order. We need major spending cuts, a balanced budget, and robust job creation to get our economy back on track.”
