Roskam Attacks U.S. Senate for Inaction on 12-Month Payroll Tax Cut

With Senator Dick Durbin on the airwaves saying that the U.S. House of Representatives failure to vote for a two-month extension of the Social Security tax cut, Congressman Peter Roskam is counterattacking:

Roskam: Fate of Tax Relief for 160 Million Americans is in the Senate’s Hands

Perter Roskam

WASHINGTON – Chief Deputy Majority Whip Peter Roskam (IL-06) issued the following statement today after the House voted to send the year-long payroll tax extension bill to Conference:

“The President has said it would be ‘inexcusable’ for Congress not to extend this tax holiday for an entire year.

“The good news is House Republicans agree.

“Families and small businesses need a full year of tax relief, not a 60 day band-aid that creates uncertainty.

“Even policy experts say a two-month extension is unworkable and ‘cannot be implemented properly.’

“The fate of a tax hike on 160 million Americans now rests in the hands of the Senate Democrats, and I urge them to return from vacation, appoint conferees, and ultimately work together to get a year-long agreement.”

Roskam Attacks U.S. Senate for Inaction on 12-Month Payroll Tax Cut — 3 Comments

  1. Funny how Roskam feels allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire constituted a “tax increase” for billionaires yet allowing middle class tax cuts to expire is just fine and dandy.

Oh and I guarantee you if this had been a Democratic House Cal would be blaring this as “House Dems vote to raise taxes”.

  2. Peter Roskam is a morally bankrupt individual who sold his seat to the largest donors.

He is too desperate to get to the top to ever stand up to or against Eric Cantor and
    Grover Norquist.

He wants the people of Illinois to believe he has our best interest in mind but people check his record.

Go online and check out his donor list, his signed pledge to special interest and voting record. He needs a new job and it is not as our representative.

  3. All of the comments posted thus far are hard to disagree with on principle. Roskam is the typical political career wannabe with a hope of becoming a part of the privilaged political class that exists in Washington. He is a prime reason why we need term limits. Why are term limits critical? Americans continue to send 95% of the current Congress right back into office.

If you remember, he used photos of his family when running for office. This proves he is morally bankrupt. Hardly a good example of a good parent when dragging your kids photos into the media.
