Recruited by the Republican National Campaign Committee after Joe Walsh announced that he was running in the 14th District against Randy Hultgren, DuPage County Regional Superintendent of Schools Darlene Ruscitti has withdrawn from the race.

That’s what the Chicago Tribune is reporting this afternoon.

Ruscitti was endorsed by both Congressman Peter Roskam and Congresswoman Judy Biggert, both DuPage County politicians.

One could surmise that Roskam, Chief Deputy Whip in the U.S. House Leadership Team, would have liked a more compliant Illinois colleague than Walsh has been.

When I served with Biggert in the Illinois House, she was not known as a conservative, so besides her motivations might have been both geographic and ideological.

One could imagine that Ruscitti could have acted as a proxy for those Republicans who do not wish Walsh in office, regardless of whether his defeat would result in Roskam’s fall from power should Democrats take control of the lower house of Congress in 2012.

Ruscitti’s withdrawal will also mean that Walsh does not have to spend big bucks on TV, since his remaining opponents do not have large name identification.

Walsh’s reaction?

“Darlene is a great Republican leader in Illinois and she will be a great help in helping me get re elected in the 8th District.

“I look forward to working very closely with her to get this country working again.”
