This week I, along with seven of my colleagues, sent a letter to Speaker Boehner requesting that our leftover funds from our Congressional budgets go towards paying down the national debt. Collectively, we will give back over $1.4 million in taxpyer funds. One of my first votes as a Member of Congress was to cut congressional budgets by 5 percent. While this is a good start, I did not think that cut went far enough so I am giving back almost 15 percent of my entire budget back to pay down the national debt. This is not our money, it is the American taxpayer’s and that is why I am proud to do my part in returning these funds. Click here to view the letter sent to Speaker Boehner.

Last week, the Obama Administration announced that it will follow through with a mandate forcing U.S. employers- even those with religious affiliation- to provide free contraceptives for their employees. In requiring religious institutions like the Catholic Church and other religiously-affiliated nonprofits to provide health care coverage that includes services they have moral objections to, the federal government is violating our freedom of religion enshrined in the First Amendment. This rule is both un-American and unconstitutional. Forcing religious organizations to provide birth control to their employees is un-American and unacceptable.

While in Washington, I voted to repeal another section of Obamacare that even the Administration admits is a failure. The CLASS program would have saddled American taxpayers with millions more in debt and done little to improve the healthcare system. As the failure of the CLASS program proves, Obamacare is just another layer of regulations that is crushing America’s job creators.
