Geneva Township Road Commissioner Says Rental Saves Money and Karen McConnaughay Doesn’t Own Garage

Geneva Township Road Commissioner Mark Wissing had two trucks when he took office. He has sold one and intends to sell the other, contracting the snow plowing out to private enterprise.

Geneva Township Road Commissioner Mark Wissing has a beef with the press release sent out by State Senate candidate Cliff Surges.

Surges is running against Karen McConnaughay.

In the press release, Surges points out that “McConnaughay Properties” owns a garage which the new Township Road Commissioner rented after taking office.

Wissing told me that when he took office, the Road District was paying $51,000 a year for truck storage.

“As you may know, there isn’t a lot of industrial property in Geneva Township,” he said.

“I looked for a new location to house the trucks because I planned to sell the trucks– one of them is sold already–because I adopted a different method to operate the Road District.  I decided to contract with private operators to perform the plowing operations in my District.

“I needed to locate a facility to store the trucks with a 12 foot by 12 foot overhead door.

“I was able to locate one near by home–by the way I can walk to the facility, so in case of an emergency I can get there quickly–and it cost $19,800 a year.

“That’s one-third the cost of the previous  Highway Commissioner’s agreement.

“It happens to be owned by Rosemary McConnaughay.  She is the mother-in-law of Karen [the State Senate candidate] and a large industrial property owner in Geneva.

“Karen has no ownership interest in the property.  I know because I have a contractual agreement with Rosemary, the owner of the building.”

  1. OK. So Karen’s husband’s mother owns the property…

    We see.

And Karen’s experienced PR team does not like public commentary, especially any critical of Karen. Hmmm.

And Mr. Wissing never mentions putting the building rental out to bid..?

Surges should start to defend his right to protect our tax dollars and allow the 33rd voters to see through this hypocrisy.

    Otherwise…back to status quo.

  2. And McConnaughay Properties is not a registered Illinois corporation.

Much of the surrounding property is owned by Mr. McConnaughay.

So family members own the real estate of Mr. Wissing’s connected pal.

Funny that Kane County taxpayers didn’t see this on its transparent website?

  3. kane county taxpayer, I just love your transparency as you create character assassination from behind your veil.

It is so easy for you to make false & reckless accusations.

  4. Mr. Wissing is in spin control.

He awarded a $1650 a month contract to the family of his close political backer and ally.

With just 10 miles of Township roads he should be selling equipment not storing it.

  5. Mr. Surges and his family could file a lawsuit against the McConnaughay Senate campaign for libel and slander.

Where did he accuse anyone of being a criminal as her published press release states?

Where is the criminal accusation? This accusation is extremely serious.

Gee Mr. Wissing, I don’t know you personally but what did I write that was false?

Mr. Surges should demand a retraction from these insiders now.
