  1. Thomas Jefferson was an ardent states’ rights advocate who believed the federal government should have very limited powers.

He said, “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

“That government is best which governs the least, because its people discipline themselves.”

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

“My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.”

A Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, or Lyndon Johnson Dinner would seem much more appropriate for the modern Democrat Party.

  2. Great commentary till the last paragraph. Nixon and both Bushes should be included in your list, and an argument could easily be made to include Reagan too.

Kudos to the Dems for naming their dinner (contradiction as it may be) after a true man of limited government.

The GOP on the other hand, name their dinner after the original and commensurate corrupt Illinois politician.

The president who first suspended habeas corpus, who jailed journalists who disagreed with him, and as an Illinois state legislator awarded bridge to nowhere construction projects to his buddies and campaign contributors.

He’d be a perfect successor to Madigan.

I can’t attend a dinner named after Lincoln the tyrant.

As enticing as a Thomas Jefferson dinner sounds, I also can’t join in with those that misinterpret and ignore his beliefs.

I’ll send my $150 to Hillsdale College instead, the only college that doesn’t accept federal money.

  3. On agenda lessons how to count the votes from the dead and fictcious.
