Judge Thomas Meyer Set to Rule on Zane Seipler’s Effort to Get Special Prosecutor Named to Probe Sheriff Keith Nygren’s Alleged Use of Taxpayer Money on His Campaign

Here are the powers that today's Chicago Sun-Times reported that Special Prosecutor Dan Webb will have.

At 10 o’clock in Associate Judge Thomas Meyer’s courtroom Wednesday, a decision is scheduled to be handed down in what has become known as the “Nygren Special Prosecutor” case.

It’s pretty clear that Judge Meyer could come down on either side of the issue.

He has lots of discretion.

It is equally clear that McHenry County State’s Attorney is not going to investigate allegations of Sheriff Keith Nygren’s wrong-doing.

He said so when he was on the witness stand.

He even denied ever having looked at any evidence brought to him.

The suit was brought by Sheriff’s Deputy Zane Seipler during January, 2010, when he was running against Keith Nygren for the Republican nomination for Sheriff.

At the last hearing in this seemingly never ending trial, Seipler’s attorney Blake Horwitz asserted that without a Special Prosecutor,

“Then the Sheriff gets a free ride by virtue of his position.”

  1. Hopefully, the judge will do the right thing.

Nygren has gotten away with too much for too long.
