Althoff Relieves Franks of Drano Problem

The "Drano bill" notice on the household cleaner shelf at Crystal Lake's Menards.

Two bills have brought heat to seven-term State Rep. Jack Franks.

The Northwest Herald gave Franks the first negative publicity that I can remember over customers having to provide identification and sign a register when they purchased caustic chemicals, hence the “Drano bill.”

The bill was passed at the behest of Susana Mendoza, a Chicago State Representative who ran successfully for Chicago City Clerk last year.  Her justification for the increased regulation was acid having been throw in the faces of two of her female constituents.  The acid disfigured them.

Franks was one of the sponsors of the bill and friendly enough with the lead sponsor to make a sizable ($2,000) campaign contribution.

(Mark Beaubien gave $1,000 and Pam Althoff $500.  Republican Congressman Aaron Schock contributed $5,000.)

You can read more  about the unclogging of retail story lines in this Daily Herald story, including how Althoff’s bill passed without a dissenting vote.

  1. The Northwest Herald gave Franks the first negative publicity that I can remember….

Your own words …. an endorsement for Jack Franks.

P.S. Think about that for a moment, you can’t remember a negative NWH article about Franks … now that speaks volumes…
