This morning, I praised the revision of McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren’s official web site for including information about incarcerated prisoners.
Some readers pointed out another aspect of the “new look.”
Undersheriff Andrew Zinke, an announced candidate for Sheriff, even though the next election is 2014, and the man who appointed him Undersheriff and who has endorsed him to be his successor, Keith Nygren, are featured on the top of the new web site masthead.
One of the few commenters willing to use their names, Crystal Laker Paul Greenlee commented,
“I appreciate the county’s effort in this regard.
“However, I cringe at the tacit endorsement of Zinke as Boss Hogg’s successor.
“Other than Joe Biden, how many number two guys in any organization are featured as prominently as the number one?
“I’m not saying, I’m just saying.”
Joe added,
“Joe Biden is featured as prominently as President Obama?
“On what planet.”
Former Green Party candidate for Sheriff, Gus Philpott, observed,
“Paul Greenlee, you are exactly right!
“The sheriff’s newly-redesigned website homepage is a blatant political tool and is an attempt to raise Zinke’s profile in the minds of the voters and public.
“Zinke’s mugshot and white shirt belong inside the website somewhere and only if other deputies are shown.
“Not only command personnel, but rank-and-file.
“But they aren’t running for sheriff in November 2014 or expecting to be appointed by the County Board, when Nygren bails out after July 2012.
“Thanks for hitting the nail on the head.
“When you do think that picture of Nygren with the FIVE-point badge was taken?”
Interesting Photo….. Looks a bit familiar doesn’t it folks?
Nygren’s last ‘side by side’ photo op featured his anointed one for States Attorney, Dan Regna.
How did that work for ya there Keith?

First two were not elected last time but one got his job back, one didn’t for whichever reason you choose to believe, and the other one – well,…………………..who knows
AndyZinkesupporter, had the blogger been elected sheriff in 2010, McHenry County would have an honest, forthright, ethical, transparent sheriff who would be in his office working every day.
And a sheriff who would have brought in a highly-qualified law-enforcement official with plenty of command experience and. unquestioned ethics as the new Undersheriff.
The crap that goes on in this County behind the walls of MCSD would have come to a screeching halt.
There probably would have been a lot of quick retirements before demotion orders could even have been prepared.
Milliman is going to get his job back.
He hasn’t been to a hearing yet.

The VOTERS didn’t elect you, or Zane, or anyone else for that matter; they elected Nygren AGAIN. Zinke may have started his campaign, but I haven’t heard of anyone else, have you?
Who do you want to back for the job?
Call me what you want- but all these promises of forthcoming “revelations” hasn’t happen yet, so as far as anyone KNOWS, no one KNOWS anything, other than what their fertile minds have put together.
I’m still gonna wait for PROOF, that stands up in court, IF there is any.

I would hope that even tho he MAY not be well liked, none of the other deputies would allow anything to happen to him, or any of the other officers.

From what I hear and from the people I know, Zane’s the first guy you want going into a fight.
Obviously, look at the people he has stood up against.

Word on the street is that Zane or a heavy hitter with big time political connections (Not cheezy McHenry County connections) is going to run against Zinke in the Republican Primary.

I don’t know if he considers me a personal friend but yes I know the man.
See I can be honest about my biases.
I think what is clear is that new leadership in the Sheriff’s department is needed.
If you are tied to Nygren (Zinke), things are not going to change.
If he runs again, I will support Zane in a New York minute.
My opinion of him has not changed at all, though I have to say that as time goes on and you learn more, those thoughts about others of the areas heavy and not so heavy hitters does change.
Then I’ll probably be cursed like Mitt Romney and have the pollyannas and the self-immolators telling me that my opinions are meaningless.

Always told “it was not done”. not illegal but not ethical.
I believe this young man is very desperate or the sheriff that is pushing him(along with the NWH help).
Having stayed away from the comments sections on this site for some time…In a odd way it’s comforting to see the tin foil hat crowd still flailing at windmills.
Maybe so , tired, but going to political events in uniform and driving the County Vehicle there so you can glad hand your campaign — not so good.

Don’t we give emergency services leaders take home vehicles so they can respond to emergencies at any time.
It’s not a 9 to 5 job.
If a fire chief or police chief has a vehicle at a event inside their jurisdiction we should be commending their dedication not playing Monday morning QB.
I can only imagine the belly aching from this crowd if he had to respond to something local and had to go home across the county for his vehicle and uniform.
You would all be whining about why we have him take a car home if he did not keep it handy to respond.
