Maneuvering for County Board Chairmanship

Ken Koehler

Tina Hill

You know that McHenry County Board Chairman Ken Koehler wants another term.

Tina Hill has decided to challenge him.

Now, word has reached McHenry County Blog that there are others in the wings wishing the position or being asked to consider running for the position.

Nick Provenzano

Ersel Schuster

Others mentioned include

  • John Hammerand
  • Nick Provenzano
  • Sandra Salgado
  • Ersel Schuster

Of course, a candidate for County Board Chairman has to be a member of the County Board and all prospective candidates mentioned above have opponents.

Sandra Salgado

John Hammerand

And, assuming that State Rep. Jack Franks’ referendum passes mandating the creation of a County Executive form of government, whoever is elected by his or her peers in December will have to decide whether to run for the new countywide position.

Share your thoughts as to which one, if any, could win a countywide race against Franks.

Maneuvering for County Board Chairmanship — 15 Comments

  1. Ersel will be the one that will run against Ken and Tina for Chairman!!

    If they were a County race against Jack Frank None of theses people above can beat Jack Franks.

    GO JACK FRANKS

    The 2 weakest of the people above is Nick and Ersel.

    The others r proven vote getters and winners.

  2. Ken is the only person qualified to be the executive and to have the respect of those he must deal with on behalf of the County.

    Individual Board members may not like him because of petty issues, but he always has the best interests of the County in mind.

    He is a now retired business man that was very successful and his executive skills are apparent.

  3. Jack has a pretty good idea of what’s going on up there, but don’t you think “they” will cut a deal with Tina, offer her some little perc, to convince her to drop out?.

    Sorry, Jim, couldn’t disagree with you more, on ALL issues you mentioned.

    Koehler has been a snarly, heavy handed chairman placing his best interests first, and has no visible people skills.

  4. Yeah, dislike Koehler because of petty issues like conflicts of interest.

    No reason ANYBODY should be upset with Koehler over that.

  5. Franks has already announced — as reported by the Northwest Herald and the Daily Herald — that he has no interest in the position.

    I assume you won’t believe it, since it’s not a conspiratorially entertaining.

    But seriously, it would be a big step down anyway.

  6. Well: Which way tongue in cheek?

    Sarcasm is my primary language.

    I intended a negative reponse to poster Jim.

    Yes, people should be upset with business as usual and that includes the way the county currently is governed.

    I hope that clarifies my position and the intent of my message.

    I will say this, I know that Jack Franks is all about accumulating power, but at least he is honest about it.

    I don’t look at that as a total negative.

  7. I will be appearing before the County Board at their regular evening meeting tomorrow night and will be asking them to make the following reforms to try to put themselves in a better light going into this referendum:

    (1) Place term limits on the County Chair by internal rule;
    (2) Ken Koehler to announce that he will not run for Chair this year or any other;
    (3) Remove the power of the Chair to appoint committees in favor of some other system;
    (4) Reduce the salary of the Chair;
    (5) Stop having illegal closed meetings and fighting FOIA requests and lobbying for restrictions on FOIA.

    Anyone can come to a Board meeting and make comment in the public portion.

    Maybe if some of the commentators here would do that it would have some impact. (Of, course, then you would have to identify yourselves).

  8. Walkup, you’re such a jerk.

    You’ve already made a name for yourself, however, I wouldn’t want to dirty up Cal’s blog with it.

  9. There is the assumption that each of those members will be returning to the board… That is a big assumption for a few of them.

  10. Mr. Walkup, I admire your candor and your ideas but if you think its easy for people of this county to just speak out without fear of reprisal you live in a fantasy world.

    You will learn, if you don’t know already, soon enough that publicly challenging Khoeler will have consequences.

    You do know the fat man in the Sheriff’s office right?

    You have kids, property in unincorporated county, a business or any links to anyone with a spotty background?

    If you do the boys in blue will have you in there sights and you will learn.

    Then again maybe you already know.

    Some of us can’t afford to stand up to our elected officials, we don’t have the kind of money it takes to pay for lawyers when the retaliation starts.

    You see not all of us have major roads named after us.

    Someone explain to me, honestly, how and Khoeler’s kid got all those Federal contracts?

    Anyone that supports Khoeler is on the take as far as I am concerned.

  11. Klatu rocks!!!!!

    By the way, should Jack run for the job (wouldn’t be the first time that a politician said no and then did yes), no current board member defeats him.

    I wonder if Mayor Shepley of Crystal Lake would have a shot.

  12. Internal term limits – great idea!

    No RINOs.

    No one tied now or before to Tryon.

    Someone who is honest and srrong enough to not be like Chicago politicians.

    Who does this leave?

  13. Anonymous says “No RINOs.” Whom, pictured above, is not a RINO?

    Only one.

    Ersel.
