  1. D’Andrea making lots of money on Republican Party. Boring place. No one will attending. Boring people org this event .

  2. When I see a Romney bumper sticker, I think that person supports cheating the USA of tax money because we all know he is hiding it offshore. Then I think, how Unpatriotic….what a shame.
But it is the USA and one is free to display their ignorance.

  3. I like Romney- he’s pro-choice, and in his own words “More liberal than Ted Kennedy!” The Republicans could have nominated someone to appease their Tea Party faction but they didn’t- they snubbed their nose at those conservatives and chose the most liberal nominee since…..Lincoln??

  4. LC- you are absolutely correct that people are free to display their ignorance.

    Case in point, your comment.

Mitt Romney paid $3.2 million in taxes last year, how much did you pay?

  5. 25% of my income. That is what I paid.

I understand that no one pays more than the law requires- and there lies the problem for me- it isn’t whole number but percentage that matters.

I can’t fault someone for playing by the rules – or even doing well by the rules –

I am uncomfortable by the fact that I give 25% of my household income and someone who amasses wealth in greater amounts can leverage it to pay a lower percentage.

My opinion- I claim it as my own.

  6. I agree that a flat tax with no deductions, or at least very few deductions, is the way to go.

  7. However, when we start accusing people who pay millions in taxes of being cheats, or not paying their “fair share “, it’s ridiculous. The wealthy Obamas paid a much lower tax rate than you as well, M, yet they contributed more to the public coffers than the vast majority of Americans.

So maybe we should have an honest debate about refirming the tax code, rather than demonizing those who have been successful.

  8. Uh, no, Shawn the Obamas paid 26% in 2010 which is not a “Much lower” tax rate than M.Maule- in fact it’s “Slightly higher.”

  9. According to TurboTax I paid about 11% Federal income tax last year.

Statistically lower income and middle income home owners pay 9-11% of their income to the Feds.

The mis-information these people spread is rampant.

    Look up your own return.

  10. Um, no, Joe- I said LAST YEAR. The Obama’s paid 20.5% last year, a lower percentage than M.Maule.

I’m in the same boat as Allen at about 11% EFFECTIVE tax rate.

I deducted my mortgage interest, property taxes, two children, dependent care, and charitable donations to get me down from the 25% bracket that I fall under.

And guess what- I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about it!

Neither should the Obamas for claiming their deductions reducing their tax rate by 14%.

Nor should the Romneys feel guilty about utilizing the deductions available to them.

How about everyone above the poverty line pays 10% with no deductions?

That way the rich guys like Romney and Obama still pay way more than those of us in the middle, and those of us in the middle will pay way more than those at the bottom.

  11. Romney has said many times “My vision for,,,,,,” what, 53% of Americans, is, ummmmm, let me ask Ryan…. ummmmm, its for a better America…… ummm, we cant tell you because …….,ummm, it cant be like my plan for Massachusetts, because I failed horribly as Governor, ummmm let me consult my ouija board.

    He is clueless period

  12. GOP Headquarters for McHenry County is in the Crystal Lake Plaza down about 5 stores from Joseph’s Market.
