Munaretto Passing Petitions for Algonquin Township Supervisor

Marc Munaretto

There is no indication that current Algonquin Township Supervisor Dianne Klemm is not running for re-election.

In fact, she told me she was.

Even so, Township Clerk Marc Munaretto, who currently also serves on the McHenry County Board from District 1, is passing petitions to run for Supervisor.

Munaretto decided not to run for re-election to the County Board.

At the Algonquin Founders Day Parade Munaretto was coy when asked if he were running for re-election.

The Township Supervisor currently pays $64,401.35, while the Township Clerk gets $17,173.70.

Salaries have not been set for the next term of office.

County Board members make about $20,000.

Election to the higher paying post would increase Munaretto’s Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Pension.

In addition, former Township Trustee Chuck Lutzow, who lives in Crystal Lake Estates, told me, “I am strongly considering a run for Township Supervisor.”

  1. Can you imagine—-a huge salary for a township officer and larger pension??

    Are we all nuts?

  2. No wonder the politicians want so many units of government, more salaries for otherwise unemployed do gooders.

$20,000+ for 24 county board gadflys, $65K+ for 17 township supervisors, $17K+ for 17 township clerks, keep it up and before long you will be talking serious money, paid for by the hard working schmucks of this world.

Oops, I forgot to add their pensions!

  3. Hey Jim, that’s only McHenry County how about the other 100 counties in our wonderful State?

To answer Fred, yes, we are all certified nuts.

    When will we wake up?

  4. Jim: All Township Supervisors, Road Commissioners, Clerks are not paid what the voters of Algonquin Township are willing to pay.

All Townships do not have benefit plans.

Townships are a local unit of government which reflect what the local taxpayers want to support.

If you live in Algonquin Township or any other Township go to the meeting and object to the salaries paid.

Take a few friends with you to make your objection appear stronger.

Nothing will change in government unless citizens get off their duff and go to the meetings.

Taxes will continue to increase if you stay home and watch TV or you need to work that second job to pay the taxes.

Find a way to go to the meetings!

Why do you think Munaretto is running for the job?

He obviously believeS people will continue to pay the higher taxes!

The salaries for Townships for the next four years will be set in stone 180 days before April 9, 2013.

GET TO YOUR NEXT TOWNSHIP MEETING!

    DEMAND SALARY REDUCTIONS!!!

  5. So, Marc Munaretto, in office as township clerk for many terms, as well as a county board member since 1998, now wants to run for Algonquin Township supervisor.

Don’t forget his wife is a retired school teacher from D300.

So, Supervisor & former County Board Chair Dianne Klemm is retiring.

Looks like Grafton Township voters aren’t the only ones to get a feisty primary.

If former Township Trustee & former Prospect Heights Alderman Chuck Lutzow runs for supervisor, it’ll set up a rematch of the 1998 county board primary where Lutzow blames Munaretto for his loss in the county board primary.

Throw in you now have a vacant township clerk position & 2 appointed trustees running for election for the first time. It’ll be fun.

  6. Agree with most of the blogs; Knowledge Voter – it’s not what people want to pay in taxes, but what gets approved by the Trustees, the majority of which are often rubber stamps.

You have only to review township records, the appointed precinct committeemen in Algonquin Twp. to see the connection to the long dominant Miller family.

Would someone get out their calculators and let me know what the bottom line is for Anna May Miller, County Board Member ($20,000+) and Algonquin Township Secretary to Road Commissioner, Husband Robert Miller?

I understand total is around $80,000!

Not bad for 2 part time jobs.

It’s a toss up between Chuck Lutzow and Marc Munaretto who’s in it for the money, power, percs, and BIGGER township government.

Will stay far away from these two.

  7. dejavus: Anna M. Miller is shown to be paid $76,383.07 by Algonquin Township. Hubby Bob is shown to receive a salary of $88,891.48. Just go to openthebooks.com to confirm. If the local taxpayers do not scream about the salaries, the trustees will continue on as you mention. Silence from the public indicates they condone the salaries paid. Don’t forget any Township citizen resident can run for trustee or any other township office with the exception of Assessor who MUST meet state requirements. Add the two salaries for Anna M. and I am amazed no one runs against Bob Miller for Road Commissioner just to get rid of his part-time secretary who by coincidence, I understand, is the Chairman of the County Transportation Committee.

  8. Isn’t too early to be passing petitions, I thought the start date to pass petitions was September 23rd?

Could this be an objection to Marc’s petitions for circulating too early!

  9. TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2012

First day to circulate nomination papers (must contain original sheets signed by voters and circulators) for established political party and nonpartisan candidates who file between NOVEMBER 19 – 26, 2012. (90th day preceding the last day to file nominating papers)

    (10 ILCS 5/7-10, 7-12, 10-4, 10-6)

  10. Elected positions should be exempt from IMRF or any pension.

    What a scam.

Work and pay into the pensiuon fund based upon a low $20,000 salary and then bump up to a 65K salary and retire at the higher rate.

No wonder public opinions of elected people are so low.

  11. Speaking of township clerks –

if any of you know what the hours are for different township clerks, it would be interesting to compare on here.

Heck, maybe Cal already knows their hours, pay, and benefits and would be kind enough to share the info.

My only experience with township clerks was less than I thought was right for a taxpayer paid job. Actually, it sounded like the equivalent of a very very part time clerical position except that in private business the boss usually sets the hours.

If a township clerk doesn’t have daily set hours, he or she is not available to other staff onsite.

  12. “Fred says:
    09/07/2012 at 2:09 pm
Sounds like everyone should join the tea party”

or it sounds like Illinois’ far too many govt. entities should either be eliminated or combined.

Nepotism has existed for the sake of more nepotism and political supporters.

A decade or two ago, businesses and schools lauded the technology.

It was supposed to create a paperless society. ha ha ha ha ha

Private businesses have been able to downsize office staff, have meetings via video instead of expensive travel, and so on.

Funny (not) that govt. keeps growing bigger and refuses to eliminate out of date entities that could be absorbed and that education is doing the best it can to build bigger buildings and maintain or increase their staff.

Seems to me children can learn a lot from educational tv, same goes for high schools or colleges that should be inhaling online programs.

    Khan Academy is fascinating.

We no longer need to get our knowledge from long winded boring teachers or professors in lecture halls.

Repetitive info can be filmed once and distributed on line or on tv.

Teachers and professors are paid to teach the subject not their opinion of a subject. Teachers and professors should not be paid to be parents’ friends or children’s friends.

We entrust our children to others x amount of hours per day and want that warm feeling that these will be daily substitute parents.

We remember crayons, and smells and what was a sweet time to many.

That was then and this is now.

Some seem to want to relieve that time their children.

It would also let us see what our children are being taught since the current education system balks at cameras while it is teaching heavily left sided politics and history.

  13. Everybody is bitching about Townships now, the best thing i can tell everybody go to your next Township meeting THIS MONTH because all Trustees will vote on Pay raises for all Township officials.

If you dont go you not as smart as you think you are.

  14. Excellent advice Jack!!!!

Hopefully many will respond but I doubt it.

People just like to bitch on blogs.

How many people will attend the meetings when levies are set by their Township? County? City? Village? Library Board? School Board? Fire District? Conservation District? Park District? Mental Health Board?
