Rep. Walsh: Attorney General deflected responsibility

IG Report faults serious leadership of ATF

WASHINGTON – Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) released the following statement after the Inspector General’s (IG) office testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The IG released its long-awaited report on Operation Fast & Furious yesterday. Walsh is a member of the committee.

“The IG report brings to light what committee members have always suspected,” said Walsh. “

The botched Operation Fast and Furious was a result of serious failures by leadership of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

“There is no doubt in my mind that lives in both Mexico and the United States were lost because too many people with ATF failed to do their jobs properly.”

Walsh continued: “What bothers me most is Attorney General Eric Holder’s continued ability to deflect all responsibility.

“It should have been the Attorney General who sought justice for Brian Terry’s murder, not the whistleblowers, and that is why I was one of the first Members to call for his resignation.

“Holder was entrusted to oversee all operations of his department, and therefore he should be held accountable for his staff’s actions.

“Instead, the AG refused to provide subpoenaed documents to this committee, he and his department gave ambiguous and conflicting statements to Congressional inquiries, and he hid behind bogus Presidential decrees.

“This is one of the worst displays of leadership I’ve seen by a member of the Cabinet.”

In November, Walsh led a letter with 39 of his colleagues calling for Attorney General Holder’s immediate resignation. He voted in favor of holding Holder in contempt in June.

“If it weren’t for Chairman Daryl Issa’s relentless pursuit of the truth, I fear the Terry family may never have gotten any answers,” Walsh concluded.

Walsh: Holder Should Be Held Accountable for Fast and Furious Debacle — 11 Comments

  1. Walsh is out of touch with the Fast and Furious Debacle which started long before he was in office. Even before Holder was in office.

    Holder was rightfully vindicated.

  2. Truth is the one out of touch, the administration is holding back as much info as it can from the PEOPLE, many know that it was 25,000 guns, not 2,500.

Why does Holder refuse to release the date sought by Congress, why does the President use the Executive Order to hide info? Another outraegeous abuse of power.

  3. It’s sort of hard to get worked up into a righteous frenzy when the paragons of virtue leading the charge are car thief and arsonist Darryl Issa and Deadbeat Dad Joe Walsh.

How can anyone keep a straight face while these two talk about “responsibility”?

  4. Current Obama administration are lairs.

    Trying to withhold information.

    Holder is a lair..

That’s what all Democrats know how to do best…..

    LIE….LIE….LIE….

  5. Sorry, LC you are incorrect on that. Wide Receiver was the program under the Bush DOJ. F&F directly put the weapons in smugglers hands and started under Holder’s watch.

They are completely different and no Americans were killed in Wide Receiver.

Holder and/or his cronies have the blood of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry on their hands.

  6. Truth seeker knows exactly what he is talking about.

From the guy in the white house on down they are all liars.

Jackson jr has to sell his house to pay medical bills?

    give us a break.

Looks like he learned from the best.

Here we have an independent being backed by madigan.

    Independent, I think not.

  7. I find it very amusing that you Obama bashers can call him and his staff liars when all the repubs running in congresional races are distanceing themselves from the Mitt.

    What a calamity!!!

    They are no dummies!! LOL

Oh …And lets not forget some of the most corrupt Attorney Generals…John Newton Mitchell…Watergate…19 months in prison…Richard Kleindienst..Watergate…Alberto R. Gonzales….US district Attorney fireing scandal all Repubs……Go Tammy…Go President Obama…We are on our way.

  8. The Teapublicans have lost any credibility they may have had as they lie lie lie lie lie their way through this campaign.

You have to ask: If Obama is SO awful why do they need to make stuff up?

I guess they are cracking up watching their golden boy self-destruct.

  9. Now here is the latest…in Jan the repubs presidential rebates Mitt says “I don’t think you want someone as the canadate for President who pays more taxes than he owes”.

Now his tax return is released and shows he did’nt take the full deductions.

Why? well..he did’nt want his tax rate to show 10%!!!

    Thats why!!!

Step aside Mitt…you are’nt qualified to run the country.

    What a disgrace!!

How anybody can vote for this guy is beyond me!!
