Point-Counterpoint in the Dee Beaubien-Dave McSweeney Contest

If you lived in the 52nd State Rep. District and you were on the target list for State Rep. candidates Dave McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) and Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Madigan), you would be receiving 2-3 mailings a week from both candidates.

Saturday, each candidate’s latest oversized post card got delivered.

Let’s look at Beaubien’s first. (I find them more reader-friendly than I do the McSweeney ones.)

Again paid for by Mike Madigan’s Illinois Democratic Party, Dee Beaubien’s Saturday piece says she will work against pension abuse.

The back of Beaubien’s piece is below:

No small print on the back of this post card from the Illinois Democratic Party.

The pension theme makes me wonder if Dee Beaubien has turned down her late husband’s pension.

Now let’s compare the Democrats post card with that of Republican David McSweeney.

As these pieces make their way to the garbage can, which do you think make the biggest impression?

What was that impression?

“Dee will say anything to get elected,” Dave McSweeney’s Saturday piece says.

There are foot notes, but the print is as small as that on Beaubien’s pieces identifying their sender as the Illinois Democratic Party.

Two out of five foot notes reference McHenry County Blog, one the Daily Herald, one the Chicago Tribune and the other Andrew Gasser’s Blog.

Compare the back of McSweeney’s piece to the back of Beaubien’s.

The back of Dave McSweeney’s piece has a big photo of McSweeney and small print for the message.

As these pieces make their way to the garbage can, what impression might stick with voters?

  1. Still waiting for that source on the “fair” quote that McSweeney is using.

Come on Cal – you’re a reporter. Can’t you ask for the actual source/quote?

  2. Cal – why do you continually refuse to respond to this line of questioning? You clearly are supporting McSweeney.

Can you answer the question about where this “fair” quote comes from? And if not, why don’t you ask the McSweeney campaign?

  3. We’re in the district and have not been receiving any Beaubien mailings at all.

Apparently Dee has already written us off in the staunch R category.
