Message of the Day – Rules for Photography

September 28, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Blacktop, Geske Paving, Message of the Day

Lakewood has come a long way since my father used to kick in $100 to have pea gravel and tar spread on Meridian Street and South Shore Drive.

“Don’t you know it’s illegal to take pictures of prisoners in Illinois?”

That’s what one of the workmen commented to me as I was shooting shots of what was going on in front of our house.

The Village of Lakewood is repaving streets on the Crystal Lake side of Lake Avenue from Gate 11 to Gate 3.

I told him that I had been told I couldn’t take pictures of inmates/detainees at the McHenry County Jail, too.

  1. Do they know it’s illegal for them to do whatever it was that landed them in that position?

Are they using prisoners to do the work by your house?

Can anyone quote a Statute that prohibits photography of prisoners or inmates?

    I like Cindy’s comment.

Pretty picky for someone who’s getting free medical and dental care, (free to them and NOT free to us/taxpayers) probably much better than they had it on the outside.

At one time, inmates (or what is the politically correct name for them now?) complained that the Hershey bars they received while in jail did not have almonds!

I tell you, it’s a rough life up there at 2200 N. Seminary Ave.
