Dave McSweeney Claims Almost $200,000 from Madigan & Allies for Dee Beaubien, Beaubien Won’t Say Whom She Will Support for Speaker

A press release from Republican State Rep. candidate David McSweeney:

Michael Madigan and Company in for Nearly $200,000 for “Independent” Beaubien

David McSweeney

Barrington Hills, IL – Self described “independent” candidate for Representative in the 52nd District Dee Beaubien has just reported receiving a cash infusion of approximately $100,000 from Democrat Speaker Michael Madigan and a host of far-left Democrat Party special interests.

This brings the total Madigan commitment to nearly $200,000 for liberal Dee Beaubien. The Madigan money is being used to wage a negative and misleading campaign.

“Dee Beaubien’s continued claims of being an ‘independent’ are an insult to the voters of the 52nd District.

“Her failing campaign has received no meaningful support in the district.

“The overwhelming majority of her support comes from Madigan and the far-left special interests.

“It is clear that Madigan has found another champion in Dee for his cause agenda of more taxes and spending,” said David McSweeney.

“I am running for State Representative because I believe in lower taxes, less spending, and limiting property taxes.

“Speaker Madigan does not support anyone who does not support his agenda.

“Dee is totally joined at the hip with Madigan and his agenda,” said McSweeney.

“The Democrats have controlled Springfield for a decade and the result is a state budget crisis that grows daily.

“The 67% tax hike is killing small business jobs every day.

“The results of the Madigan/Dee Beaubien policies are more debt, a pension problem that threatens the entire state budget, downgrades of Illinois’ credit ratings, and higher unemployment.

“These policies have failed and the people of the 52nd District want a change in the direction that we are currently headed.

“I will continue to work hard to get my positive message out the people of this district and am confident of victory” said McSweeney.

In other news, the Daily Herald’s Mike Riopel reportsBeaubien won’t say whether she will vote for Mike Madigan or Tom Cross for Illinois House Speaker:

“I’m going to stick to my same answer: I’m not elected yet.”

I have speculated that Beaubien is Mike Madigan’s “hole card,” that he will not “request” her vote unless he needs it. If she voted for Cross, then Madigan could have a way to find out GOP strategy.

  1. Cal please use your access to the candidate to have him produce the quote where his opponent said that the Illinois tax increase was “fair” which has quickly become the centerpiece of his campaign.

One can’t help but wonder– if Dee Beaubien is so awful why does Mark McSweeney have to make things up to attack her about?

  2. Dear Joe:

I’d think even the most remote relationship with Madigan would taint a candidate, or, is it possible you think that he’s good for Illinois?

P.S. the candidate’s name is David McSweeney, not Mark, the name of Ms. Beaubien’s late husband.

  3. Maybe McSweeney is confusing Dee with her late husband.

He is quoted as saying, “Anybody who believes we are going to ever eliminate that tax (increase) better think again,” said Republican Rep. Mark Beaubien, a Barrington Hills budget expert who opposed the tax hike. “We’re not going to ever eliminate that tax. … We need the money.”

Although, even his quote is a little confusing because he is opposed to the tax hike but says we need it.

  4. Sorry I bobbled the candidates name. I have no one to blame but my caffeine deprived brain.

DAVID McSweeney is certainly welcome to make an issue of Beaubien’s support of Madigan (and vice versa).

He is not, in my book, entitled to make things up and attack her for things she didn’t say.

Apparently a lot of folks here think otherwise so I guess it’s a good debate to have.

Is it OK for candidates to lie?

  5. ** I’d think even the most remote relationship with Madigan would taint a candidate, or, is it possible you think that he’s good for Illinois?**

No more than McSweeney’s relationship with Jack Roeser and other right-wing ideologues taints him.

  6. And read the comments in the post Cal links to, where we get more information from the Trib on what Dee actually said.

And that information shows that McSweeney is lying, or at best, blatantly distorting what Dee said.
