Opponents of Jack Franks’ Power Consolidation Referendum Have Their Say

October 08, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: County Executive, Jack Franks, McHenry County, McHenry County Board., No County Czar

Earlier I wrote of State Rep. Jack Franks’ robo-call in support of the referendum he put on the ballot to establish a County Executive form of government.

For some reason I didn’t get that one, but I did receive on tonight for the opposition.

Here’s what the woman said,

“Neighbor, this is an informational call about the County Executive Referendum.

“If you have told this referendum is about electing the County Board chairman, you have been misinformed.

“This referendum creates a powerful, unaccountable Executive position with veto-power over the publicly-elected Board.

“This Executive will also have the power to appoint friends and political contributors to positions without board oversight.

“This position will add an new layer of government with its own staff and expenses.

“We do not need more government in McHenry County.

“We have seen in first hand in Springfield what happens when one person has absolute control in government.

“Here in McHenry County We have a balanced budget, AAA bond rating, low Crime and a high quality of life. We do not need to drastically change our form of
Government for the sake of change.

“Vote no on the County Executive Referendum. If you’d like a yard sign to show your disapproval with this power grab, press 5 and one will be delivered to you.

“Paid for by Citizens for no County Czar.”

The masthead of the No County Czar web site.

I wasn’t home to push 5 for a yard sign, but I did discover that one can order one by linking to this page.

  2. Would Jack Franks be interested in someday holding the McHenry County Executive position if the referendum passes?

Moving from the Illinois General Assembly to top county official is not unprecedented.

Republican Dan Cronin served in the Illinois Senate (21st District) from 1993 – 2010 where he resigned when elected to DuPage County Chairman.

Cronin was also Chairman of the DuPage County Republican party 2007-11.

    Ha….what a laugh.

    Two egomaniacs supporting each other.

Well, something has got to give with the current McHenry County Board.

In my opinion they have not served the public as they should.

The Mental Heatlh Taj Mahal and yet lack of services to anyone not on medicaide.

Our higher tax’s year after year.

Tax Payer money going into programs that don’t serve the tax payer but instead bring in unskilled workers for a certain industry.

Ken Kohlers 86K plus plus salary and 20K to the other memebers.

We need a complete change to the system or none of us will be able to aford to stay in McHenry County.
