The Movember tee shirt being worn by Algonquin-Lake in the Hills fire fighters during November to raise money for men’s health.

A press release from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District folks:

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and IAFF Local 3985 kick off a Movember fundraiser

There will be mustaches grown by firemen at Algonquin-Lake in the Hills fire houses during November.

During November each year, the organization “Movember” is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world who normally do not have one.

With their Mo’s, these men raise vital awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

On November first at 9:00 a.m. over thirty participants will be shaven by Anthony’s Barber Shop on the bay floor of our headquarters station at 1020 West Algonquin Rd, Lake in the Hills.

For the rest of the month of November participants will be growing mustaches and collecting donations for the Movember organization.

Participants will also being wearing a special T-shirt for the month bringing awareness to the project and men’s health issues.

Donations can be made to the team (IAFF Local 3985) through the Movember website on line at us.movember.com.

  1. Knowledge Voter – Let me first apologize for the confusion.

I am the one who wrote the press release for this fundraising event.

I was trying to be as clear as possible but evidently that didn’t happen.

The point of this “campaign” is in fact not a political statement or an attempt to raise money for ANY political interests or party.

This is a “campaign” to help promote men’s health and raise money for the Movember organization.

This organization uses donated money, not tax dollars, to fund research and survivorship programs primarily for testicular and prostate cancers.

These types of cancers are obviously specific to men and unfortunately hit very close to those of us that are participating.

To recap things; This is not a political endorsement, there are no tax dollars being used to support this event, and again I apologize if the press release was miss leading.

  2. This is great!!! Love firemen getting involved like this!

I would love to have one of those shirts!!

My dad is a prostate cancer survivor and my husband is a fireman!

His station does lots for breast cancer but never prostate cancer:(
