Knocking on doors yields some interesting information.

While on South Shore Drive in Lakewood, I was told by a resident near the boat ramp that she and her husband had seen a bald eagle sitting on a limb of tree in their lakefront yard.

It was eating a small duck.

Unfortunately, it was on the side of the tree away from the house, so a photo was impossible.

The homeowner did tell me that she had heard that someone on the West End had gotten a photo of it.

So, Crystal Lake-area residents, keep your eyes open and camera ready.

If you manage to get a picture of the eagle, please email it to McHenry County Blog so we can share it with readers.

  2. Saw a bald eagle Nov 2, 2013 by the Crystal Lake recreation lake area.

We were driving west on Rakow Rd. about 1/2 mile west of the intersection of Rte 31.

The eagle had been in a tree by the lake and took off over the road.

    Beautiful bird!
