After returning home, I found a message on my answering machine from David Smith of the Illinois Family Institute.

It was a warning that a vote on gay marriage may be held this week.

Smith didn’t go into the details of why IFI opposed Senate Bill 10 (you can read that here).

He talked about how the legislation would “redefine marriage” in a way not designed by God.

Smith said people’s voices and prayers were needed “if we hope to avert a disaster.”

He asked people to call 217-782-2000 and ask for their state representative.

Robo-Call from Illinois Family Institute re Gay Marriage Vote to Call State Rep. — 12 Comments

  1. The U.S. has redefined marriage before in case you have forgotten, like when we allowed blacks to marry whites post civil rights movement.

Jesus never spoke about gay marriage.

God is too big and too loving for just your specific religion’s beliefs.

Be on the right side of history.

Only 14% of American’s wanted to allow minorities the right to vote concerning the Civil Rights Act.

    This is not different.

  2. Leviticus 20:13

    English Standard Version (ESV)

13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

  3. Your religion, Orville, is too small to fit all of God into it. But I’ll entertain your Bible verse. Leviticus also says that you aren’t supposed to eat bacon, have clothes with two kinds of material or eat lobster, otherwise that is an abomination – or punishable by hell for eternity (which begs the question: Are you wearing cotton underwear with that polyester jacket you have on today? Hell.)

Leviticus 11:9-12 says: 9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination. 12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

The Bible says more about lobsters than it does same sex marriage.

Ultimately, however, we have a freedom of religion in this country. Your religious beliefs do not and should not having anything to do with a STATE issue. You are married by THE STATE. You are divorced by THE STATE.

Go to a church and ask them to marry you, they will want to see your STATE marriage license. Let the STATE decide if same sex marriage should be allowed and let them just be as miserable as the rest of Illinois married couples.

Be on the right side of history.

  4. Proverbs 17:15 ESV

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.

  5. The only universal truth is Love, Orville.

And I will continue to love you despite your misguided ways.

God is bigger, larger, and more loving than any one single verse you can find in the bible.*

*(also: Context – Proverbs is New Testament, Leviticus is Old Testament does it matter to you that you are just cherry picking verses like a Texas sharpshooter?)

As a student of History, I find it prudent to understand context.

  6. Orville and Fair Play, I was not going to comment on this topic, but if this goes through, where does it end?

Sex with children and or animals.

The only ones to make out on this are the Attorneys, the divorce rate will go up even further.

I remember a sign that was carried in Chicago a number of years ago, in protest of the Gay Rights Movement, it read ” Save the Gerbils ”

There are very nice Gay and Lesbian people out there, who truly want marriage status . . . but I believe they are being used to promote a much larger agenda.

  7. @anotherwatcher – A few questions:

Are you naive enough to think ANY State Representative in their right mind would ever be elected by the people if they ran on the platform of beastiality and pedophilia?

Are you naive enough to think that ANY Illinois House is going to pass a bill allowing bestiality and pedophilia?

And to your last point about “a larger agenda,” do you want to know what the Gay Agenda is?

Watch this TED talk from LZ Granderson and you’ll find out (Only 17 minutes): http://www.ted.com/talks/lz_granderson_the_myth_of_the_gay_agenda.html

Honestly though, snarky-ness aside, did you watch the video and what do you think?

  8. Ammo for Franks opponent!

More reason to run like hell from Tom Cross
    !!!

  9. Fair Play, for the devoted couples this is a win . . . but be real careful on what Government will approve of later.

I was taught at a young age, Government creates the problem, then will solve it.

I don’t think it will be to your liking

Be watchful, to protect the children and animals to keep them safe.

  10. It’s quite the quantum leap to go from same sex to bestiality and pedophilia.

Seems like the State feels marriage should be based upon consenting adult couples–dogs, cats and eight year old children hardly pass as consenting adults…

That’s a strawman argument and one with ZERO logic.

    As for divorce rate-really?

that’s the argument against same sex marriage?

Are divorce lawyers really getting giddy over the prospect that the whopping 1.7% of adults (http://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/research/census-lgbt-demographics-studies/how-many-people-are-lesbian-gay-bisexual-and-transgender/)who identify themselves as gay will all marry and divorce? Really?
