What Huntley Residents Wanted Officials to Know – 3

The survey that the Village of Huntley took had pages of citizen comments. Taken as a whole, they give an intriguing picture of what people think. 62% of those who took the survey were from Sun City, so keep that in mind.

Very disappointed with the new I Pass on/off ramps not having a pay box for out of town people coming here to visit.  Where is our freedom of choice. Also, I love Huntley but do not think it safe having a train being able to stop traffic on 47. With growth in Huntley I see it as a growing concern. A new downtown by the library can offer growth.

One residents doesn't think the no cash option on the new Tollway exit is out-of-towner friendly.

I have watched as Huntley develops, with all good things comes BAD things. I want to live in Sun City for many coming years and not in fear. I want my property to increase in value and my fees to stay as they are or increase just a little. But as I am not a dumb person, I am sure I will be paying for everything that is in the works.

I would love to see a safe path for my children and others to go all the way down to Culver/Jewel on bike or foot. I would love to see more shops and restaurants. We need more parking in the Town Square area. It would be nice to update the look of the buildings in the downtown area unless they are unsafe.

Access for golf carts, west of 47, to the future businesses that are being planned, or a cart bridge to get across 47 from Sun City.

We need to assess needs for senior bus service now that grafton twsp is cutting service, many people in sun city can’t or shouldn’t be driving.

Why are there no senior transportation and other services except for the seniors in Sun City?

I am a senior and can really use some services. I am not AFFLUENT and can use the services you provide to residents of Sun City !!!

The Village is doing a fairly good job of attracting business near Sun City, but for those of us further away, we’re out in the cold. Oftentimes, it’s easier to spend our money in LITH or Algonquin. Would be great if there were a gas station near 47 and Reed. We have ONE business near us — Walgreens. I suppose Wisted’s counts but Good Grief!

Moved to Huntley from Chicago. Thought I would miss the city. Find I am now happy that I am living here where I feel safe. The other thing I notice how nice everyone you come in contact with is. Town, county, state etc. Thankyou.

snow removal in sun city sucks

I do not shop nor go to restaurants in Huntley as there are very few options. Rookies and Starbucks are great additions, yet for most of our daily/weekly shopping we travel to Algonquin, Lake in the Hills or Elgin. Downtown Huntley is very unattractive and currently there is nothing that would draw me to the area.

Very interesting and important questions.

40 year family business in Schiller Park. Would love to utilize public transportation instead of driving every day.

Also would like to frequent downtown Chicago more. Some years subscribe to Lyric Opera and must drive 5-6 times back and forth late night/morning.

Love outdoors a long (3+ miles)hike/bike path outside of Del Webb would be the best!
Village government does not support small business.

The town should’ve put the electric wires under ground tho expensive. Won’t be cheaper in future. Looks terrible, can’t fix it now. Wait till storm knocks them down, domino effect.Hodge podge of bldgs. dwntwn. Level all, start over.

RR crossing doesn’t help. Hard to modernize old bldgs. Too many poles, wires etc. Looks bad.

Hope the new 90/47 interchange will rejuvenate businesses to the outlet mall. Also need more restaurants on 47.  Maybe something nice to take over Nikos that closed?

i wish the farmers market were more like woodstock. they have an outstanding market. we seem to attract some of the same vendors every year and the prices are not affordable. gramps pickles and breadsmith you can buy cheaper at woodmans and the jam lady on the corner is just plain gross and i would never pay $12 for a jar of her jam. insane.

I wish there was a service that could take you to the doctor. I need to have my cataracts out and I will not be able to drive.

= = = = =
More tomorrow.

What Huntley Residents Wanted Officials to Know – 3 — 3 Comments

  1. If you do not have an IPASS transponder, you can still exit at Ipass only lanes.

You are supposed to remember or jot down the exit and day I guess, and pay online or by mail within 7 days.

No doubt many tourists can’t figure that out traveling 55 mph+ on a tollway and suddenly coming upon an Ipass only sign.

So Ipass only exits are tourist and business unfriendly.

Apparently the savings from not putting in a cash box at such exits outweigh the inevitable number of people whom will exit and never pay.

But did the Tollway think about the impact on local businesses of having people not exit at all at Ipass only exits?

  2. How many restaurants does Huntley need?

Better yet maybe someone should be specific about what kinds of restaurants are needed and wanted.

Mostly I hear people wanting to repeat the same types on Randall.

A good family restaurants that doesn’t have roaches and bad parking and barely passable food would be nice.

Yes, it would be nice to have some adults only spots that aren’t barlike.

And a real bakery, not an elite little place.

If it doesn’t have real sweet rolls and potato buns, never mind, you don’t get it.

Too many people here think they are the top of the money chain and everyone should jump to salute them.

    Want better?

Start by doing what has worked for generations elsewhere before you try to be Wilmette.

  3. I realize this post is a resurrecting a rather old topic:)

Mark has a VERY important point.

The Hwy. 47 exit sign shown at the top of this post can be interpreted as reading “NO ENTRY FOR TOURISTS. SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE.”

I got hit near Schaumburg last week.

I live near Nashville, Tenn.; while returning home from a visit to Wisconsin, we decided to visit Ikea.

Unfortunately, we were already in the exit lane when we noticed it was an unattended exit.

    $1.90 in coins?

    Not gonna happen.

They got 43 cents. (every coin I had on me)

I will be returning to Ikea — but it’ll be the Ikea store in Cincinnati.

They don’t have unattended toll exits there.
