Says transparency is important when deciding next governor

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Republican candidate for governor Kirk Dillard and his wife Stephanie have released their joint 2012 federal tax returns.

The documents show he paid $64,392 in federal income tax on adjusted gross income of just under $260,000.

“As I said when I released my tax returns in 2010, I believe it is important for candidates to be transparent with voters, including how they earn their income,” Dillard said.

“We don’t want any surprises, like the last time when the Republican nominee later revealed he paid no income tax.”

Dillard’s income was derived from his legislative salary as a State Senator and as a law partner with Locke Lord, LLP. Dillard was owed a federal refund of $8,256, which he has elected to apply to next year’s taxes.
