While looking at the Crystal Lake High School District 155 web site for weather information, information about the contract proposals made by the Board and the teachers association popped up.

What you see, of course, is what the school board wants you to see.

If anything is presented unfairly, I’m counting on a teacher to tell readers about it in the comment section.

  1. Remember everyone that this is for 180 days of work per year (minus vacation and sick days, natch) and 5h:45m work days (excluding their paid lunch and 1:30 of navel gazing).

Does anyone know how we go about opening charter schools in D155?

  2. Interesting that the district is paying 74% of the retirement contribution in year one.

I wonder how much they are paying now?

That means that teachers work only 180 days, don’t pay social security, and don’t even pay for most of the cost of their retirement since the district seems to pay a large portion of that.

Then they get much larger pensions than those of us who are paying 7.5% of what we make into social security.

The average person who makes $100,000 a year and pays 7.5% into social security is not going to get $80,000 a year in social security payments.

That’s how much that $100,000 a year teacher is going to get in pension per year.

Not to mention the health care benefits.

They can also retire well before the age of 67 that most of us have to work until.

Seems like the teachers and teacher union are stuck in a long ago time when pensions existed.

Show me a fortune 500 company that still offers a pension.

Most people who work for large corproations are not getting raises and if they do, they are very small. (Less than 1%)

Even if a strike is needed, I say it’s time to make a stand and not give in to the union.

  3. This district needs to stop giving administrators bonuses of thousands of $$ and credit cards.

  4. “This district needs to stop giving administrators bonuses of thousands of $$ and credit cards.”

Is that the classic union retort of “It’s ok that we screw you blind because other people are doing it, too.”?

  5. Not a union member or even a teacher, just a CL resident concerned about a strike & how it will affect my kids and my taxes.

My comment above was a statement of fact not a “classic union retort”.

CL needs to demand the firing of high priced superintendents & their followers and replace all present board members.

  6. @jgkm6 Do you understand the teacher pay/pension plan at all?

You just worrying about how it will affect your kids/taxes then you better get informed!

Do you know what a teacher makes in your district?

Their Pension that is given to them.

How many days they actually work?

How many days they get in vacations, sick day, personal days?

Do you know teachers can accumulate their vacation days and retire years before they want to and still get paid for all of them.

Teachers call it “Boat Pay” because they buy a boat with it.

You are after administrators which I agree is overpriced etc.. but at least they are under contract for a full year!

Go to this website to find out your district teachers pay.

Does not include any coaching etc..just their base pay. http://www.familytaxpayers.org/ftf/ftf_salaries.php

  7. I am not in Dist. 155 but just a quick look you have a P.E. teacher at Central making $113,583.00

    That is crazy!
