Former LITH President Ed Plaza Getting IMRF Pension

The Daily Herald’s Jake Justen had a story yesterday about municipal officials who have Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pensions.

The only one found in McHenry County who is retired was former Lake in the Hills Village President Ed Plaza.

He stepped down after two four-year terms last year.

Plaza is getting $1,884.48 annually for 8.42 years on the Village Board.

The story tells of a Naperville Trustee who decided he wanted to get out of IMRF, but could muster only his own vote on the Village Board.

Apparently, once one signs up, one is in for as long as one is an employee.

Of course, one could decide not to sign that piece of paper upon election.

You can read the other municipal pensions found by the Daily Herald here.

  1. One need look no further than Jim Wales Director of Public Safety in LITH.

He retired on a Friday as Chief, started collecting his Downstate Police Pension, then returned to work on Monday with a new title as Director of Public Safety. but now contributing to IMRF to bag a second pension.

He collects his near 6 figure Police pension, still draws the same salary and starts a new pension.

    Double the.oat for same work.

If you get one Illinois Public pension, you should be prohibited from drawing a second.

    This happens all over.

Police retire from one department and go to work in an IMRF covered position.

Court security, dispatcher, highway worker, etc.

Teachers and administrators retire and collect their TRS then get a job within the same school district in an IMRF covered position.

Nygren retired from Crystal Lake and gets a six figure pension, now he will get a huge IMRF Pension for being Sheriff,

    This is wrong.

Illinois should close this loophole. If you want to work for a public agency in a second career, fine, but no second pension.
