Looking at the McHenry County College Evaluation and Policies Committee agenda for Monday night at 6:30, I see there is further discussion of new Board member Chris Jensen’s proposal to prohibit borrowing big bucks without referendum approval.

  1. No permission from the voters – you know, the people who pay for everything – no debt.

  2. I do agree.

    Issuing debt without voter approval should not be allowed.

    However, I do believe issuing of debt should be allowed in extreme circumstances.

    Here is the guidelines I would allow issuing debt, in the event of a catastrophic event where the dollar amount is limited.

    Example: A water line breaks and causes .75 million in damages.

    Since many insurances do not cover water damages, the repairs would have to be done.

    Thus it would be a catastrophic event limited to a set dollar amount.

    This way the college can repair any damages.

    If the college does plan on building an addition to the campus.

    I want a vote on this issue.

    No taxing body should be allowed to issue massive debt without my approval.
