Steve Reick, Republican candidate for State Representative running against Democrat Jack Franks endorsed Bill Prim for Sheriff Monday night.

The occasion was a fundraiser at the Bull Valley Country Club for Bill Prim.

Prim is running against Andy Zinke for the Republican nomination for McHenry County Sheriff.

Without naming names, Reick told of being at a public meeting at which an elected Republican official said that Jack Franks was “the most conservative politician we have in McHenry County and we’re lucky to have him.”

After the McHenry County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner, Reick said he emailed main speaker GOP State Chairman Jack Dorgan.

Reick would not share a copy of the email, so I’ll have to rely on my notes.

“We’ve not met and since no one saw fit to introduce me to you last night, [I’m contacting you by email].”

Reick said that he “was told resources will be made available.”

“Nobody’s giving me much of a chance,” he continued.

“If you are serious in prying Michael Madigan out of the Speakership that has to start in the 63rd District….

“There’s no glory in defeat.”

After reading the email, he told of being impressed at the Thursday meeting rally in Woodstock.

He told of the many people who came up to him to tell him they would support him.

Looking at Bill Prim, Reick said,

“I will support you.”

From what he heard from other speakers at the Prim fundraiser,he reiterated,

“[I’m here] to say I’m going to walk with you. I’m going to support you.”

Zinke has been given $1,000 by Jack Franks’ law firm.

Zinke was also among the Republican office holders and candidates who put themselves on Jack Franks fundraising Host Committee. Zinke’s sponsor and boss Keith Nygren has been on that Host Committee for years.

Reick is running as a write-in candidate for GOP Precinct Committeeman in Alden Township. So is the current Committeeman, Township Supervisor Preston Rea.

Jack Franks Opponent Steve Reick Endorses Bill Prim for Sheriff — 21 Comments

  1. Isn’t Prim’s only personal political donation of record to a Chicago Democrat who ran in McHenry?

I’m not saying it’s the most important thing in the world but let’s all get a grip.

  2. Aton – I AM A LIFE LONG REPUBLICAN AND I VOTED FOR THE DEM THAT RAN AGAINST NYGREN -as did MANY Reps I know.

    We have a ROTTEN Sheriff.

A decent Dem is better than a ROTTEN Rep in that job.

Nygren is a DEM at heart.

He ran as a Dem several times and could not win in the Rep county SO,

he decided to become a Rep. Nygren has ALWAYS supported Franks, even when good Reps were running against Franks.

Nygren has also gotten contributions from Chicago DEM ALD ED BURKE.

Anton, get your head out of your can.

  3. Reick did not name a name but I will.

That person was Barb Wheeler who appeared to SWOON because she got to sit next to Franks.

FYI Franks voted yes on the Com Ed / Ameren rate increase to overturn the Gov. veto.

When Madigan needs Jack’s vote, he gets it – further evidenced with the gay marriage vote. Jack is only allowed to make a Republican leaning vote when the Dems do not need his vote!!

Republicans in Jack’s district need to get their head of that dark place!!!

A vote for Jack is a vote for continued socialist rule in Illinois!!

If you have a few nickels, give them to Reick.

It is time to get serious about getting rid of Franks!!!

  4. @Cautious – It’s called same sex marriage and it’s a bloody civil rights issue.

Anyone against it is a discriminative, hateful person.

Franks gave a great speech on the floor for why he was voting for it, which I’m sure you didn’t listen too and is why I’m stunned that you would say ‘he only voted for it because Madigan told him to.’

You are ignorant. “Socialist rule in illinois,” you said. What

hyperbole. What sensationalism. If you are the McGOP we have, we are in trouble.

Bill Prim, though, only has a contribution history of $200 dollars as you can see here.

    http://www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisclosure/ContributionsSearchByAllContributions.aspx?ddlContributionType=All+Types&ddlLastOnlyNameSearchType=Starts+with&txtLastOnlyName=Prim&ddlFirstNameSearchType=Starts+with&txtFirstName=William&ddlAddressSearchType=Starts+with&txtAddress=&ddlCitySearchType=Starts+with&txtCity=&ddlState=&txtZip=&txtZipThru=&ddlOccupationSearchType=Starts+with&txtOccupation=&ddlEmployerSearchType=Starts+with&txtEmployer=&txtAmount=&txtAmountThru=&txtRcvDate=&txtRcvDateThru=&ddlOrderBy=Last+or+Only+Name+-+A+to+Z&ddlVendorLastOnlyName=Starts+with&txtVendorLastOnlyName=&ddlVendorFirstName=Starts+with&txtVendorFirstName=&ddlVendorAddress=Starts+with&txtVendorAddress=&ddlVendorCity=Starts+with&txtVendorCity=&ddlVendorState=&txtVendorZip=&txtVendorZipThru=&ddlPurpose=Starts+with&txtPurpose=

Zinke has at least contributed to the local McHenry party as you can see here:

As for Steve Reick, this dingbat is an amateur just like Bill Prim.

If you look at what he is running on and his press releases, he tries too hard to come off as versed in policy and uses words that fly right over the heads of most McHenry County citizens.

Maybe if he were a man of the people and had a decent campaign strategist, he would have a chance.

  5. I think you have Nygren’s history a bit off.

As I remember it, he applied to replace Art Tyrell, the only Democrat elected as a Democrat to countywide office.

State law requires that a person from the same party replace a countywide official who resigns.

  6. My memory is different from FYI’s.

When Democrat Art Tyrell left the Sheirff’s Office early to work for Material Service, the replacement, according to state law, had to be from the same party.

Nygren applied, but was not selected by the County Board.

  7. I will be supporting Steve Reick and helping his campaign.

Although, Barbara Wheeler is my state representative.

I’ve been able to hear two of Steve Reick’s speeches and I’m impressed.

He’s certainly more impressive than Wheeler or Franks.

Take a look at his website and find a way to help him defeat Franks. http://www.steve463.com/

Why isn’t Wheeler supporting Reick? A fellow Republican?

    Instead of supporting Franks.

    Wheeler needs to go.

Funny how she hasn’t had an opponent yet.

  8. Why are you Republicans criticising Wheeler?

Cal noted that she has a 100% voting record from the Conservative watch group.

Franks is a fraud and as I understand it Wheeler knows that very well.

Despite Franks being a liberal fraud, she along with Tryon and Althoff have to work with him.

Can’t they sit at the same table at an event?

    Go Reick !!!

Kick Franks’ out of the General Assembly.

I’m sad that Zinke supports Franks, financially and politically.

    Now that’s a SHAM.

Where are the party leaders on that one?

  9. Barb Wheeler supports Zinke.

The problem is not that Wheeler,Althoff, Tryon, all sit in Franks lap.

They would rather support a 8 term democrat then a Republican.

  10. What did Nygren run for before his appointment to fill out a Republican’s (Bill Mullin, I think) term as Sheriff?

  11. If I remember correctly, there was some funny business, when Bill Mullin became ill.

I always thought of Bill Mullin as being an honest man.

My prayers are still with he and his wife and children.

  12. Bill Prim exudes integrity!

Anyone speaking ill of, or in any way disparaging this man, reveals volumes as to their own character.

Now, for obvious reasons his name must be mentioned along side the likes of Zinke and Nygren…

But there is simply no good reason to desecrate his name by mentioning it along side the likes of Barb Wheeler.

  13. Listening to Steve Reick speak, his disdain for the quid pro quo “leaders” we have representing us was almost palpable.

There is no questioning that Steve Reick will not serve the status quo.

Many, known to me to be of the utmost integrity, are endorsing and supporting Steve Reick.

I, too, will be supporting Steve Reick.

  14. He thinks lowering the minimum wage is a good idea….wow…

People criticize the current GOP for courting Franks.

Face it people,he is a powerhouse legislator in the state.

He is able to bring good things to mchenry county.

What would Reick be able to do?

If I was an elected official I would want him on my side to help with projects that help my township, town, agency or whatever political subdivision.

Zinke does want the department to get back from the state not just pour money to Chicago.

He is the Undersheriff like if or not.

If the tables were turned Prim would be trying his best to get favor too.

I smoke a life long conservative but know that Reick is not the man for the job.

    End if story.

  15. Damn auto correct…should be …..I’ve always been a life long conservative

  16. GulfGuy: The only accurate statement you made is that Jack Franks is a heavyweight.

That is the only point you made that was correct.

Politically, however, Franks is a pawn of Madigan who is allowed to “appear” conservative when the Democrats don’t need his vote to further another liberal cause.

The “things he brings to McHenry County” are more accurately called “PORK”.

With this PORK, Democrats have successfully fooled ostensible conservatives like you into believing this shell game. They fooled you using your tax money to do so!

How does it feel to be politically abused, GulfGuy?

You’re too naïve to have figured it out. 🙁 Yet, I hope.

  17. Am I really hearing that Team Prim wants our county officials to refuse to work with elected members from opposing parties to bring benefits and a portion of our local taxes back to McHenry County to benefit our citizens?

So just out of some kind of misguided principal we should pay Springfield and not fight to get any of that money back?

I completely agree with the fight to keep taxes low, but to not try to have a solid working relationships to bring what we do pay back is either very naive of pure idiocy.

  18. So the Andrew Zinke for McHenry County Sheriff campaign is connected to Democratic State Rep Jack Franks.

The same currently McHenry County UnderSheriff Andrew Zinke who, in his police uniform, in a police vehicle, in his capacity as a McHenry County employee, in the Crystal Lake Independence Day Parade on Sunday July 7th, 2014, flips off local blogger Cal Skinner and the public.

And he was caught on camera doing so.

Nice gesture for the kids to see.
