  1. Well Duffy talks a good game but even he is not good enough on pension reform.
Regarding Senate Bill 1366 (SB 1366), Public Act 98-0042 (PA 98-42), TRS ERO Renewal (Teacher Retirement System of Illinois – Early Option Renewal).
Duffy had a “No Vote” after the third reading.
On the Concurrence Vote he voted “Yes” for ERO Renewal.
    Notice the words RENEWAL.
ERO would have EXPIRED if it was not RENEWED.
That would have been real pension reform that could not have been constitutionally challenged!
We could easily write a chapter about why TRS should not have been renewed.
    Bottom line.
Teachers are already entitled to full retirement at the age of 55 after 35 “years of service” which if they exchange 2 years of unused sick leave is 33 “years worked”.
    They already have early retirement.
So ERO is really EERO: EARLY early retirement.
    Double Early Retirement.
You can try to think of all the excuses you want to support ERO renewal such as, oh teachers and school districts have to contribute more under the renewal, blah blah blah.
    Don’t drink the Kool-Aid.
Try convincing Social Security to grant you “Early Retirement Option” with benefits anything close to ERO.
Remember, teachers don’t contribute to Social Security so don’t receive it.
They get a better deal than you.
