Tribune Endorses Prim for Sheriff, Provenzano of Clerk & Miller for Treasurer

The Chicago Tribune has released its endorsements for McHenry County:

  • Bill Prim for Sheriff
  • Nick Provenzano for Clerk
  • Glenda Miller for Treasurer
Bill Prim reacts to the crowd's jubilation at his Chicago Tribune' endorsement.

Bill Prim reacts to the crowd’s jubilation at his Chicago Tribune’ endorsement.  The camera was not quick enough to catch the beaming smile.  Bill’s son Hank, home from college on Spring Break, applauds in the foreground.

Here’s part of why the Tribune endorsed Bill Prim over Andy Zinke:

“…The sheriff’s and state’s attorney’s offices need to cooperate. The sheriff’s office also needs a top-to-bottom overhaul. The best chance for that is with Prim…”

IMG_4995Endorsing Nick Provenzano as “an effective County Board member,” the Tribune adds that opponent Mary McClellan is “an impressive opponent.”

Pointing out that Glenda Miller is currently Chief Deputy Treasurer “has been running a sound, efficient operation,” the Tribune says they both

  • “have solid credentials”
  • “promise more transparency”

Interestingly, the editorial does not mention Thorsen’s long tenure on the Crystal Lake City Council.

If one looks up Prim on the Tribune web site, as I did to find the editorial, here is what one finds:

  1. So I guess congrats for getting the support of the Cook County paper who endorsed Obama, Madigan, and Emmanuel.

I am sure they only have McHenry County residents and conservatives best interests targeted there.

  2. Oh and Cal, you do realize one of your “tribune links” is just the Prim campaign downloading their press release onto a bulletin board, right?

You wouldn’t be trying to imply it is actually a Tribune staff written article, would you?

  3. …seriously!

Its a great day. So much decentralized activity going on in the Prim, Thorsen, and Provenzano campaigns.

Poor Geri cannot fire off emails and make phone calls fast enough.

  4. Finally, a newspaper that can tell the truth !

    Congratulations To Bill Prim !

  5. After reading NWH Zinke account of being served with summons, I came to the conclusion that if you feel threatened and in danger, don’t call Undersheriff Zinke or Sheriff’s Department for help, call that 78 year old lady with a bad hip.

  6. After reading NWH Zinke account of being served with summons, I came to the conclusion that Prim supporters will stop at nothing to manufacture scandal in their zeal to conquer the Sheriff’s Office and Republican Party.

If you feel threatened and in danger, don’t call Sheriff Prim (if elected) or Prim’s Sheriff’s Department for help, they will send a 78 year old lady with a bad hip to do a Sheriff’s Deputy’s job.

  7. Just as soon as the Trib and Sun Times become relavent again, so with their opinions.

  8. Our local NorthWest Herald endorses Zinke for Sheriff.

So don’t you think a local paper has a bit more knowledge and insight of the quality of each candidate, especially as they also sponsored together with McHenry County League of Women Voters the debate at MCCC.

If you care, here is the actual debate.
    http://www.nwherald.com/2014/02/26/candidates-for-mchenry-county-sheriff-exchange-barbs-during-debate/aw7rz4r/

The debate showed the difference between a person who was lacking in vigor and involvement versus an energetic, engaged and professional undersheriff.

Also, a word to Chicago Tribune’s informed decisions – how long has it been since Tribune’s team last won the World Series?

    Actually, I have already voted.

  9. Well, let’s get this straight – Zinke supports DEM, Jack Franks and Franks supports ZINKE a Rep (in name only) and people are pointing fingers at Prim because he worked in Cook Count??

Let’s face it, Zinke does not have experience with the “hard core” problems facing our county.

We are growing and with it come the big growth problems.

    NO MORE BARNEY FIFE.

    That is Zinke’s Mayberry experience.

We need a man like Prim.
