MCC Board Settles on Faculty Contract Language, But Keeps It Secret

The following press release was just received from McHenry County College:

McHenry County College and MCC Faculty Association Reach Tentative Agreement

The McHenry County College Board.

The McHenry County College Board.

[April 6, 2014.Crystal Lake, IL] On April 4, 2014, McHenry County College (MCC) and the MCC Faculty Association (MCCFA) reached a tentative agreement for a new, multi-year full-time faculty
contract.

The agreement is awaiting ratification; no details of the terms of the contract will be released pending the ratification and approval by the full MCCFA membership and the MCC Board of Trustees.

I continue to be dissatisfied that those running public educational institutions refuse to allow the taxpayers to see the language in contracts well before they are approved.

After all, salaries and fringe benefits make up most of cost of schools and colleges.

Such secrecy cannot be said to be “good government.”

MCC Board Settles on Faculty Contract Language, But Keeps It Secret — 3 Comments

  1. All concerned citizens and taxpayers should go to the MCC Board NOW with questions, such as

-What percent of that newly-voted on tuition increase will go toward these full-time faculty salaries?

-What percent of the tuition increase will go toward part-time faculty salaries? (FYI, for every 1 full-time faculty at MCC there are 3 part-time faculty making WAY less per course than full-timers)

-What percent of the tuition increase will go toward staff salaries?
    And finally…

-What percent will go toward ADMINISTRATORS’ salaries? (it was announced at a recent faculty meeting that for every 2 faculty at MCC, there is 1 administrator).

The public needs to step in and interrogate.
