Mr. Skinner,

Congratulations on your election to precinct committeemen. Whether you are new to the position or have been re-elected, thank you for making a commitment to support our Republican nominees in November and the Republican Party throughout your upcoming term.

On April 16th we will be making important choices about our Executive Officers that will have significant impact on the Republican Party in McHenry County and our ability to continue to dominate the Democrats at the ballot box.

After much deliberation and with the encouragement of many incumbent and incoming Precinct Committeemen I have decided to seek the position of Vice Chairman of the McHenry County Republican Party.

I have been active in politics in McHenry County for the past 8 years and am starting my 3rd Precinct Committeeman in Nunda Township. During my first two terms as Committeemen I served as Secretary and Vice Chairman of Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, the most active and engaged Republican Township organization in the McHenry County.

As an officer in the Nunda GOP I have worked to provide Committeemen and voters with numerous opportunities to hear from Republican candidates and elected officials; I am passionate in my belief that the best candidates will be elected if the electorate is adequately informed and educated.

In my precinct I have walked independently, with candidates and sent mailings to Republican and Independents voters to drive them to the polls.

The candidates that I recommended in my letter to Republican voters have been clear winners in my precinct; regardless of your preference for the candidates that I supported, the results
demonstrate that I have built credibility and influence with the voters in my precinct.

In the most recent primary:

 Overall turnout was 19.5% of total voters, 15% higher than the county average

 80% of likely Republicans voted in my precinct voted in the March Primaries

 The number of Republican voters increased by 10% over 2010

 All of the candidates that I recommended in my constituent letter were clear winners in my precinct

As Vice Chairman of the McHenry County Republican Party you can expect that I will be an approachable
reasonable leader open to differing opinions, willing to challenge and be challenged on matters of process, policy and philosophy.

I believe that leadership should set reasonable expectations for committeemen and accountability,
while an individual trait, needs to be applied organizationally.

On the reverse side of this letter I have provided an outline of the goals that I would like to see the organization pursue and will work with the new Chairman, to develop an active and engaged Republican Party in McHenry County.

Ultimately, the shared success of the Republican Party in McHenry County will be dependent upon the amount of positive energy, effort and commitment that we all bring to the organization.

Over the next week and a half I will be working to reach as many precinct committeemen as possible to discuss my candidacy and answer any questions you may have.

If you would prefer to contact me directly, my mobile phone number and email address are available below.

Thank you for your consideration and appreciate your vote on April 16th

Respectfully.

Mike Shorten Running for Vice Chairman of GOP Central Committee — 5 Comments

  1. He supported McClellan.

    Nuff said.

We have had enough of the County GOP being run by the Operating Engineers and the two old dudes.

  2. He also supported Zinke! “Nuff said…”

But, even that aside, although I have had my disagreements with Andrew Gasser, one thing which can NOT be disputed: Andrew Gasser has done more to build and strengthen the Republican Party in McHenry than anyone currently on the Executive Board has done in a decade!

I believe, very strongly, that the degree to which Mike Shorten supports the status quo is more than just cause to expect that his input into the executive board will encourage more of what we already have!

And, I, personally want no part of that!

    I unequivocally support:

    – Sandra Salgado – Chairman
    – Andrew Gasser – Vice Chairman
    – Diane Everston – Secretary
    – Chuck Wheeler – Treasurer

With Bill Prim in the Sheriff’s office and these guys compiling the Republican Central Committee Executive Board, McHenry County has real chance at vastly improving the political culture of the McHenry County Republican Party for generations to come!

  3. “All of the candidates that I recommended in my constituent letter were clear winners in my precinct”

    That means nothing.

Are you saying they won in your precinct because of you or was it because of the union?

We don’t need anymore of the same old politics run by local 150 & good old boys, never interested in putting up or supporting real conservatives, and also only interested in the next fundraiser for candidates who don’t have an opponent!

    Nunda is a joke.

  4. Mike Shorten the guy who made sure Franks ran unopposed the last go round?

You know, Franks, the best Republican in Illinois according to Barb Wheeler…what party is Shorten running for again????
