Write-In Pitch Paid for by County Central Committee?

Letters like this were sent to Republicans in at least one precinct where the Establishment committeeman candidate failed to file a petition and decided to run a write-in campaign instead:

Instructions on how to write-in

Instructions on how to write-in Louis Matuszewich for Republican Precinct Committeeman.  On the bottom is the notation, “Paid for by Republican Central Committee of McHenry County.”

“Paid for by Republican Central Committee of McHenry County.”

That’s what it says on the bottom of the mailing.

Regardless, the effort only resulted in Louis Matuszewich, the then-Precinct Committeeman, receiving 6 write-in votes.

received four votes short of the number needed to win the office of Precinct Committeeman.

received four votes short of the number needed to win the office of Precinct Committeeman.

Since the same number of votes are required to be elected as are required to get on the ballot–ten in the case of a  Precinct Committeeman–Matuszewich was not elected.
