Petitioning at Fair Diddley

Julie Fox

Julie Fox petitioning.

After eating lunch at DB Cobb’s at Fair Diddley, I ran into my 2002 running mate for State Comptroller.

When I was into my quest to be elected Governor as a Libertarian, CPA Julie Fox was running for the chief financial officer spot.  She did far better than I, getting over 4% of the vote.

In any event, as my wife and I were walking in front of the movie theater, there she was. I recognized her political button on a man with a petition first.

And I thought I might get through the day without politics entering the picture.

A man and a woman were after signatures for Jim Harrison on the north side of the Square.

When we reached the Square a woman and a man were seeking signatures for Jim Harrison for Sheriff.

There were wearing bright yellow tee shirts.

I was solicited by the man, but declined because of my support for Bill Prim.

There were wearing bright yellow tee shirts.

On the back was written,

Declare Your Independence.

Elect Jim Harrison Sheriff

Nov. 4, 2014

We walked around the Square and on the other side stood another man in a Harrison shirt.

Later we heard he had collected 100 signatures so far.

Below is what was being distributed, although I have greatly enlarged it:

  1. Their shirts should have read ” VOTE FOR DEMOCRAT JIM HARRISON “.

I wish I would have been there………would have asked why he started out as a Republican, then switched to Democrat, then to Independent !!!

Sorry you couldn’t get through the day without politics……obviously, Harrison doesn’t have all his signatures !

  2. But Cal,

Illinois is in large part as screwed up as we are because the career politic bloodsuckers have made nearly impossible for anyone who is not part of the political establishment to even get on the ballot.

Mr. Prim only needed 500 signers where as Jim will need 10,000.

Even then there is no guarantee.

Remember a number of years back George Ryan put in the fix and had the Libertarians kicked off the ballot by having the State Board of Elections disqualify the whole ILP slate?

This dispite the finding of the board’s own hearing oficer who found they did have enough signatures.

So Cal if you are a real, true believer in free elections and democracy let me know.

We’ll bring a petition over to sign.

  3. Where do you see Harrison needs 10,000 signatures.

Prim would have gotten any amount of signatures because he does not flipflop and is a true Republican with all the qualifications to be the Sheriff.

Lets not make the loss of signatures be an issue.

It is a sad day when a person has to PAY people to get them signatures.

Bill Prim didn’t have to do that.It is called when people believe in you and want you to be the next Sheriff they go out and get the signatures and don’t expect money.

So were these people paid to get signatures and not believe in the candidate?

    I don’t know.

Deputy for 8 years and that was 25 years ago doesn’t cut it for me.

As far as Harrisons What I want to do list…well don’t all candidates want that.

  4. Just Joe, If Harrison would have run as the “Democrat” that he is, he wouldn’t need all those signatures….

So, I guess that’s the price you pay, when you flip flop around to different parties ! http://www.mchenrydems.org/257331

  5. Don’t worry Duncan, Harrison, in my opinion ,doesn’t have a chance.

We need a real Sheriff and the qualifications Bill Prim has.

Harrison wanted to get Zinke by some old law about not being able to run because of some sort of connection with Federal funds and that was a wash.

So how good is he even as a lawyer.

Prim is the man folks !!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Why is Jim Harrison’s Top priority at the bottom of his list in his flyer?

  7. Why not sign Jim Harrison’s petition and give him the chance to be on the November ballot?

Then the voters in the November General Election will have a choice!

The Illinois Election Board rules are the exact reason I ran as a Green Party candidate for Sheriff in 2010.

Had I run as a Republican (even a disgruntled one, mad at the McHenry County and National Establishments), I would not have won the Primary and then could not have been on the November ballot.

These same rules now keep Zinke entirely off the November ballot. He can’t switch parties or run as an Independent or write-in.

Ask Bill Prim about his philosophy regarding militarization of the sheriff’s and police departments.

I would have chosen Mickey Mouse over Zinke, but be sure you understand about Prim and militarization.

Of course, without an opponent in November, he’ll coast right in.

  8. “What chu talkin’ ’bout Willis!”

Is this more innuendo about the MRAP?

Does anyone else have knowledge of this?

  9. Gus, If Jim Harrison can’t get enough signatures to run, then obviously he won’t get enough to WIN.

I don’t care what party he belongs to…….do you really think Zinke would have run in the November primary as an independent or write in ?

Flip Flops for everyone…………. As Cindy said ” What chu talkin’ ’bout Willis? “

  10. Gus the people want Prim so it is not a case of coasting in anywhere.

  11. People want Prim?

Have I missed the general election?

Oh wait, it’s June 1st (insert sarcasm)…guessing voter must have some form of ESP and can see the future.

Voter, this country was founded on having a choice and what’s the scare about having an opponent in the general election?

Your assertion that the people made their choice already is awfully presumptuous and condescending (I recall this Primary wasn’t a runaway victory).

Keep it up and you’ll risk repelling a lot of disenfranchised voters.

  12. old happy trails is just like the rest of the good old boys.

whats your big worry about having a INDEPENDENT on the ballot?

Will be seeing you in Nov.

  13. John, No worries about Independent Harrison…..except he was going to run as a Republican first…..then he asked people to donate on his behalf to the Democratic Party….now he says he’s an Independent candidate…..he flip flops……and inexperienced….. he can’t commit …..would have more respect if he ran as the Democrat that he is…..’til November….. Thanks for your comment
