Two more Jim Harrison petitioners.

I attended my first Milk Day Parade since I served the area in the 1970’s in the Illinois General Assembly

Before the parade, I noticed petitions being passed for the Independent candidacy of Jim Harrison for Sheriff.

Libertarian Julie Fox advances her candidacy.

Libertarian Julie Fox advances her candidacy.

Libertarian candidate for Comptroller Julie Fox, who ran with me when I was on the ballot for Governor, was also passing her petition.  She needs 25,000 signatures to qualify.

The biggest change is that Ayer Street was not painted white.

Ayer Street was not white washed...unless that's what can be seen way down the street.

The parade was really long.

Kids passed the time playing in the street.

Starting time was 1, but it was not over until about 2:30.

A father and his son kicked a ball around in the street.

Similar to before, however, once the parade got going, the politicians came first.

The first politician I recognized by McHenry County Board member John Hammerand.

They used to be put in the back of pickup trucks and paraded down the street.

Next came Harvard Mayor Jay Nolan.

Now they seemed to be providing their own vehicles.

State Senator Pam Althoff waved at the crowd.

Convertibles were favored.

McHenry County Board Chairwoman Tina Hill came next.

Countywide candidates came next.

GOP candidates for McHenry County Clerk and Treasurer, Mary McClellan and Glenda Miller, respectively, share a vehicle. Both are unopposed.

One of the three women running on the Republican county ticket, Leslie Schermerhorn, was taking her parents to the Mayo Clinic. She is also unopposed.

Although not on the ballot, County Auditor Pam Palmer was in the parade.

The parade dipped into Boone County for a dignitary next.

Capron Village President Ken Grzybowski drove himself.

The Grand Marshall was next.

Long-time volunteer Jan Comer was honored by being named Grand Marshall.

Next there was a really long wait.

An Illinois State Policeman broke the monotony by riding a bike up and down Ayer Street.

Again attention was draw to street action.

In the "intermission," little boys chased each other in a side street.

And a man and a woman wearing yellow Jim Harrison tee shirts walked by.

Harvard’s Milk Day Day Parade with Emphasis on Politics – Part 1 — 19 Comments

  1. Gee,Can’t a person relax and watch a parade with their kids without having a clip board shoved in their face.

Of course giving the volunteers trying to get signatures 2 bucks per signature can make them a little aggressive. See Harrison’s Facebook, add for anyone who needs extra cash.

  2. Anyone remember why the use of a two dollar bill in the U.S.A. is rare?

  3. With Tina Hill advertising Gary Lang, will the use of their vehicle show as a campaign contribution / expense?

  4. Harrison might have gotten a few signatures BUT how many of those people are even registered voters?

Not some I saw and how many will go out to vote, not some I saw.

Oh and no one wanted a 2 dollar bill

  5. Take a look at Jim Harrison’s Facebook page, he is claiming that 100’s of people signed his petitions… I don’t believe it…..

  6. I don’t believe it either but when you think about it how many people do you think were there ?

    Over thousands and thousands

He sounds like he is really into himself the way he talks.

  7. Mr. Harrison has written a media response to the Memorial Day fiasco on Jimharrisonforsheriff.com …….go to media and click to see his explanation from June 7th.

He believes it is his right to get signatures at any public event, including Memorial Day !

He states he must acquire 6,728 signatures and Prim only had to get 517 signatures.

I believe that if he would have run with Prim and Zinke, as a REPUBLICAN,( like he was going to do), he wouldn’t have needed 6,728 signatures………

If he would have run as a DEMOCRAT, ( Donate on behalf of Jim and Carolyn Harrison), he wouldn’t have needed 6,728 signatures…….but since you keep flip flopping.

Now, you are an INDEPENDENT and you need 6,728 signatures.

    You chose that position !

And I agree to disagree with you.

  8. If that is truly his position on Memorial Day, then absolutely all veterans need to boycott him and all of his pretensions.

  9. Yes, by all means read Harrison’s media response. What a bunch of crap. I hope the people don’t fall for all his baloney.

All he talks about is the law . Well, what is more important are peoples feelings regarding the memorial day fiasco.
He sounded like a little kid,” I can stand on this sidewalk”and you can’t tell me to move.

    How stupid.

All his talk about how he is going to change the Sheriff’s dept.

How can he do that when he doesn’t know anything about being a Sheriff.

What him being a Sheriff for only 8 years and that was 25 years ago.

    Give me a break.

He says he is not political.

Wow could people talk about that with the facts.

He talks JUST like a politician and a Chicago politician no less.

  10. Say it like it really is:

Harrison was going to run as a Republican with Zinke and Prim

    Then he backs out.

Let those two battle it out and I’ll run against the winner.

He knows he can’t win as a Democrat

    So he turns Independent.

Again on Harrison’s views on Veterans.

Shame on you and you say you are so concerned about the citizens of McHenry County.

You have insulted all the Veterans around the world and during a ceremony.

  11. Just read Harrison’s response to Donna McAnally.

    Talks just like a lawyer.

I guess ” Constitutional Rights” ( repeated numerous times) trump Sensitivity and Compassion!

If Harrison becomes Sheriff ,we can be assured all the squad cars will have a copy of the Constitution in them.

  12. Public sidewalks are public………they are outside hospitals…..cancer centers…….cemeteries…….churches…….funeral homes………. and even Memorial Day ceremonies…..who would try to get signatures for a campaign at these PUBLIC places ?….

    Lawyer mumbo-jumbo…freedom of speech explanation

  13. Signatures are more important than compassion?

It was clear that there was a specific purpose for disrupting this beautiful Veterans Day ceremony and it was for selfish reasons.

A person who covers up under the law is a dangerous individual.

You can use the law to help people and you can use the law to hurt people.

The latter was what was done.

The person wasn’t in the center of the ceremony but was at a place where they knew people would have to travel to get to their cars etc. to leave it.

I’m sure the person didn’t pick any sidewalk and hope others would travel on it.

  14. Harrison is no better than Zinke… EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES….

Let’s see where is that moral compass? Oh I know, it went down that big fat hole he has been digging….

That picture of Jim Harrison on his face book page is very misleading…

He has not had the uniform on for years, he has been in school.

I agree voter he does sound like he is really into himself…

Clearly, there is a lot of self serving, self importance going on there.

Some people might call it “The God Syndrome”

We already have King Nygren sitting on his throne, and we don’t need a replay of McHenry County Government and politics.

Allowing people to show up at a Memorial Day event for signatures, that is clearly self serving and nothing but a display of self importance……

Hey Jim, our veterans are more important than you…

  15. Read what Harrison just posted it is a doozy.

It’s on the article about parents of soldier find fault with Harrison. For some reason it was just taken off as recent comments so go back to that article.

    I personally wrote Harrison back.
