County Considering Charging More to Out-of-County Nursing Home Patients

Among the items to be considered at next Tuesday’s meeting of the Valley Hi Operating Board is charging more money to those who were not residents before becoming patients at the Hartland Township, tax-supported nursing home.

Those who find such a possibility interesting might want to read the following memo from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office:

County Considering Charging More to Out-of-County Nursing Home Patients — 5 Comments

  1. I think its fair to charge non resident fees for anything including Valley Hi.

    I support the measure.

  2. Cynthia:

I agree with you but sometimes it’s better not to open a can of legal worms.

  3. I think we should charge non-residents more because if it is supported by taxpayers they should charge more just as colleges charge more for out of district students.

  4. What is troubling is the suggestion that truly local residents may not find an open slot at Valley Hi when they need it, as it is a very attractive facility and wonderful value, so it attracts ‘customers’ from many regions.

Is there any policy that favors ‘local’ applicants if there is a waiting list to get in?

If this a facility subsidized by local tax money but open to all (even to the disadvantage of local applicants), then the County should consider selling it and saving taxpayers the expense.
