CL Police Announce Traffic Crack Down

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

The Crystal Lake Police Department Urges Motorists to Safely Celebrate this Independence Day Holiday Period

The Crystal Lake Police Department today announces plans for the July 4th enforcement, focusing on both drunk and unbuckled drivers.

The intensified enforcement effort will primarily focus on late-night hours as statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve a drunk driver and/or unbuckled motorist.

The crackdown is part of the statewide, Independence Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket effort.

This intensified enforcement effort against drunk drivers and seat belt law violators underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths caused by alcohol consumption and failure to buckle up.

The Crystal Lake Police Department will join the Illinois State Police and hundreds of police and sheriff’s departments in a statewide enforcement effort that begins June 23 and runs through July 6th.

The Crystal Lake Police Department recommends designating a sober driver and not letting friends and family drive drunk as just two of several simple steps to avoid a tragic crash or an arrest for drunk driving. Other important tips include:

Safely Celebrate this Independence Day Holiday Period

  • Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver before going out and give that person your keys.
  • If you are drunk, call a taxi, use mass transit or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
  • Promptly report drunk drivers you see on the roadways to law enforcement;
  • Wear your seat belt and make sure all passengers are buckled up. It is your best defense against a drunk driver.

The law enforcement crackdown is funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety.

The crackdown runs concurrently with a media campaign that reminds motorists, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket.”

  1. Love Terry Stops.

Especially answering idiot questions like: ‘where are you coming from’ with, “none of your business”.

If more folks actually exercise their rights, by making the detainers experience as miserable as possible, the sooner these Soviet style tactics will cease.

  2. I would like to petition the city of Crystal Lake to have regular citizens stationed right outside the City Hall.

These citizens would be granted the right to write citations to ALL city employees driving to/from work who violate ANY of the same laws that these BS “Traffic Crackdown” police stops “enforce”.

Within two weeks this Police Tyranny would stop to a halt as the citizens would be ticketing dozens of City Hall workers on a daily basis.

  3. The picture may reflect the 4th amendment(search & seizures) but the article itself does not pertain to that.

It is talking about drunk drivers and the police would have probable cause to stop someone if it appeared their driving warranted a stop.

    CLM, you are right.

This should apply to everyone !!

I would love to see some of these government workers and all city employees held accountable for the same things they hold accountable for the citizens.

They are no different than anyone else.

  4. Things are getting truly frightening and now the Sheriff Dept. has an MRAP!?

We’d better get in an honorable man that will uphold the Constitution via his oath of office! Bill Prim is my choice to lend this responsibility to.

    CLM I am in agreement!

  5. CLM is so right !!

I know for a fact many CLPD employees read this blog. You all know CLM has nailed it with that statement.

I hope you all feel some degree of shame knowing your department preys on the very hard working citizens who pay your salaries and early retirements.

Those of you in the CL city council, wake up.

In the end, the thuggish behavior of the CLPD is in your hands.

YOU are truly the responsible losers.

  6. The people in CL have to expose these bad cops and unfair treatment.

The good cops don’t want them in the department either.

Report the incidents to the herald,go to city council meeting, stand up and be heard.

There are too many bad cops who give the others a bad name.

They are bad eggs in the basket and they must be thrown away.
