Independence Day Crackdown to Save Lives

The Crystal Lake Police Department recently completed participation in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the 2014 Independence Day holiday period designated as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over / Click It or Ticket”.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort from June 23rd through July 6th to save lives by encouraging motorists to refrain from drinking and driving and to buckle up during late-night hours.

CL Police mastheadDuring this period, the department, in addition to daily traffic enforcement operations, participated in an additional three enforcement campaigns to increase safety on our community’s roadways.

During the mobilization, The department:

ÿ Stopped 37 additional motorists for traffic violations

ÿ Issued a total of 31 additional traffic citations which included:

  • 13 safety belt citations
  • 6 citations for speeding
  • 1 citation for operation uninsured motor vehicle
  • 2 citations for equipment and other moving violations
  • 9 citations for unlawful use of an electronic communications device

ÿ In addition, 1 subject was arrested for the following offenses:

  • Attempt Obstructing Justice
  • Possession of >30 grams but <500 grams of Cannabis
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The recent law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled over” and “Click it or Ticket” campaigns.

Additional such enforcement campaigns are planned for the future.

  1. The results should encourage the police to do more !!!

    Let’s start doing un-announced searches of people’s homes!

    If we forbid people from driving alltogether, there will be NO deaths on the road!

    If we drug test anyone walking the street we could find all sorts of illegal drug use!

    Soon, we’ll be no better than a 3rd world dictatorship – all in the name of “public safety”. The police and the municipalities should be so proud of themselves.
