Flaws, Forgiven Blog Takes on Oakwood Hills Power Plant

Jennifer L, autthor of the he blog "Flaws, Forgiven," stepped into political waters with her article on the Oakwood Hills electric power plant.

Jennifer Ludwigsen, autthor of the he blog “Flaws, Forgiven,” stepped into political waters with her article on the Oakwood Hills electric power plant.

Jennifer Ludwigsen, a neighbor of the proposed Oakwood Hills gas-generated electric power plant, has been writing the blog “Flaws, Forgiven” for about a year.

On the opponents’ facebook page I found a link to her article about the proposal.

She lives a couple of miles away from the Route 176/Valley View Road location, but her daughter goes to the Prairie Grove School just down Route 176.

Ludwigsen writes of two leaders with “passion.”

They got over a thousand facebook followers in two weeks, raised almost $12,000 in less than six days and were part of those who got over 800 people to the first zoning meeting in the Holiday Inn.

She points out, “The power plant needs 1.5 million gallons of water each day,” and a well is being drilled to an aquifer with drinkable water just in case re-cycled gray water cannot be obtained from neighboring sewage treatment plants. (See article here about a deeper aquifer from which undrinkable water could be drawn.)

Where you can reach the opposition.

Where you can reach the opposition.

Ludwigsen talks of the problems that will accompany this power plant:

  • air pollution
  • noise pollution
  • plumes
  • security
  • property devaluation
  • money
  • school concerns

Flaws, Forgiven Blog Takes on Oakwood Hills Power Plant — 9 Comments

  1. Why isn’t the EPA on top of this?

They’re shutting down the “evil” coal power plants all over the country causing our energy bills ” to necessarily skyrocket ” (the words of the president before he was elected) and they want to control every bit of water on your property including seasonal puddles & creeks.

You’d think they’d be concerned about this!

  2. You give them too much plausibility.

Who can imagine what pure evil entails?

It’s called waking up; and the reality is too horrible for most to fully comprehend.

  3. IEPA has insufficient manpower to monitor air and water emissions of this power plant.

Adjudication and collection of assessed fines are problematic.

But that doesn’t matter because fines are so tiny, so who cares?

At $1000 per peak megawatt hour gross revenue, a 430 megawatt plant ($1000×430 megawatts= $430,000 per hour) will behave predictably.

  4. There is a ‘dry cooling ‘ system available, it costs more to install and cuts profit margins slightly for the private partnership owning the power plant. It uses 90% less water than this plant’s proposed method.

Oakwood Hills has not addresses which taxpayers will be footing the bill for supplying ‘waste water’ to this plant, to replace the groundwater the plant will use upon initiation.

The whole county will be faced with the choice of surrendering water security or be blackmailed to pay for piping water to the plants doorstep from waste water treatment facilities.

(This plant may use 400 gallons water per megawatt hour. 430 megawatt capacity x 400= 172,000 gallons per hour. 24×172,000= 4.128 million gallons of water per day (mgd). By comparison, all of Crystal Lake uses 4.9 mgd average. That is, the plant may use 83% of the amount of clean water supplied to Crystal Lake every single day.)

  5. The Koch Bros are starting a campaign saying climate change is not real so we don’t go to solar, wind and geothermal energy.

George W. Bush, an oil man, has geothermal energy for his house but makes money off of oil.

They want to have local government make laws that average citizens cannot make laws for their communities protecting water rights.

To stop this speak out and if elected officials are for something you don’t want one of the citizens should run for their office.

Wars will be fought over water this century.

  6. “The Koch Bros are starting a campaign….George W. Bush, an oil man,…”

Here we go again with the left wing moonbattery ranting.

This comment along would almost (but not quite) enough to make me support the power plant.

Arguments concerning noise and water usage are valid.

But blaming the Koch brothers or Bush is pure unadulterated nonsense.

I live in a community where there is a multi-county water management agency.

Their claim to fame includes fancy conferences, taking 20% of the land off the tax rolls in my subdivision, and consuming tax dollars.

    There is a choice here.

Pay through the nose for electricity as EPA shuts down the coal plants, or have a clean, gas fired generator supplying electricity that is affordable.

Which is it going to be?

  7. It is irrational to suggest that the only two choices available to Americans are to force fellow citizens to subsidize private for-profit fossil fuel electric generation facilities at great personal expense and risk, or freeze to death in the dark.

  8. You must have a clue that climate change is real now there is simply no denying it.

To deny it is to be a fool.

All of these power plants and facilities are using ancient technology and scare resources.

We have endless wind and sun we should be using solar and wind energy and create green jobs.

We should be striving to be an example of the future and clean energy.

This power plant is absolutely disgusting and there will be negative consequences if it is built.

Take a look at the bigger picture… we wont even be benefiting from the energy produced there.

Our bills aren’t going to go down.

Our water is going to be compramised.

Our childrens saftey and future in jeapordy… and for what?

So a couple people get rich and can skip town after they sucked us dry.
