Tribune Re-Visits Oakwood Hills

There was an article in the Chicago Tribune on July 9th about the concern of Oakwood Hills area residents had over the proposal to build a huge power plant behind the Village Hall.

(I notice that that article says the developers first contacted Melanie Funk “shortly after she took office in spring 2013.”  McHenry County Blog did not break the story until September 23, 2013.)

Thursday–almost a month after the first Tribune story–there was a follow-up focusing on the shut-down of the civil part of Village government.

The most interesting part was the photo, which gives the address of the opponents’ group’s facebook address.

  1. Unfortunately most of the media, present company excluded, is only reporting one side or giving the opposition a small part.

No one has been charged with threatening a public official.

No one was escorted be police except the clerk, who is married to him.

Does anyone think the police chief wouldn’t do everything in his power to protect his wife?

I think the village hall is closed as a way to avoid FOIA requests and general public scrutiny. Something smells in Oakwood Hills.

Maybe the SA should investigate Pres Funk

  2. You are right.

Not much about what the threats were at this point but the Village Hall should re open, have the people work and continue business so they can get paid.

The investigation can go on without closing the building.

If it was a personal threat then have that person stay home.

    This is ridiculous.

  3. Just because no one has been charged, doesn’t mean the threat did not happen.

Personal threats indicate desperation, and aren’t the way to keep the discussion open.

This plant is likely going to go up, regardless of how much the residents kick and scream about it.

Not a matter of if, but when.

  4. TJ, are you a village board member?

    Have you attended the meetings?

I have and I can tell you that this is a very organized group of homeowners on Oakwood Hills and the surrounding communities.

We deal in facts not the vague answers from the power plant “experts”.sure there were some people yelling out, it’s hard to keep 900 people quiet for four hours.

The pro power side has been caught in outright lies.

No one was escorted out by the police, except the clerk who is married to the chief.

This is another ploy by Funk to avoid the public.
