The Lego Movie has brought increased/renewed interest in the plastic building block toy.

Crystal Lake, celebrating its 100th Anniversary, is capitalizing on that by hosting Crystal Lake Lego Master Builder David Howard.

He is one of only six people in the US (there are 11 in the world) to achieve that designation.

The movie features Master Builders as the heroes of the tale.

Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago at Crystal Lake’s Closing Centennial Festival

Crystal Lake – The closing of Crystal Lake’s year-long centennial brings with it another free family event this fall. The Closing Centennial Festival will be on Sunday, September 14, 2014.

The celebration will be held in downtown Crystal Lake from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm. The festival, along Williams Street near the Raue Center for the Arts, will offer fun activities for the while family.

Music, dance, entertainers, and cupcakes will be part of the birthday celebration.

The closing Centennial Festival is free of charge and family friendly.

In the lobby of the Raue Center for the Arts, from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm, will be Master Model Builder of LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago, David Howard.

Howard is one of only six people in the United States (and 11 in the world) who currently hold the title of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Master Model Builder.

These elite LEGO® builders have successfully turned their skill and creativity with LEGO bricks into a full-time, paying job.

“My life-long passion for LEGO began at the age of four, so this is truly a dream job for me,” Howard said.

“I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love everyday and get paid for it.” Howard travels all across the country to help launch new facilities and appear at LEGO events. 

Not only will Howard be showcasing his talents all afternoon, but there will be plenty of LEGO fun for the kids to enjoy.

“David is an extremely talented and creative LEGO builder with a warm and enthusiastic personality that families and children are drawn to,” said Nick Miller, General Manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago.
