Does Front Page of Northwest Herald Tip Hand on Endorsement?

“Lawyer vs. Lawman” reads the headline on the top of Sunday’s Northwest Herald.

Pretty catchy.

But look at the layout.

The top of the paper Sunday features not only Jim Harrison, but his name multiple times.

Bill Prim extends the stretch of times a story about him has appeared on the NWH’s front page without his name being in a headline.

Republican candidate for Sheriff Bill Prim has part of his picture above the fold, but the layout has Independent opponent Jim Harrison on top.

Who do you think the NWH will endorse for McHenry County Sheriff?

Does Front Page of Northwest Herald Tip Hand on Endorsement? — 40 Comments

  1. It’s now up to the people of McHenry County.

Prim is the candidate that will create positive change on behalf of our tax payers.

Harrison is old baggage definitely connected to the gravy train.

Remember people, Harrison has been asked for those land records for over and year and he has never produced them.

Are you hiding something Mr Lawyer?

    Just asking.

The fact is, Prim will no longer tolerate a government enmeshed with with rampant corruption and influence that comes directly from organized crime…

CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT, CHANGE THE LEADERSHIP.

“IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PEOPLE TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR GOVERNMENT”

VOTE BILL PRIM NOVEMBER 4, 2014

  2. The Headline says it all!

Do you want a “Lawman” with years of experience with police, drug enforcement, customs, etc. or a “Lawyer” ?

  3. Have to give Harrison credit though.

Go the NWH comments site and when I looked earlier, there were only positive suck up to Harrison posts.

I wonder if he is paying $2 per comment for those too.

Or maybe $1 per vote in the NWH Fishwrap’s poll on who people are voting for.

I mean seriously, there is no way 31% of the people are undecided about this race.

  4. Looks like Harrison can’t even win in a NewsPaper Pole.

I’ll take the experience of Bill Prim over the Lawyer.

    Harrison has no police experience.

Oh, 25 years ago and for only 8 years says it all.

Harrison would even have to go back to the Sheriff’s academy today to be considered for a deputy sheriff’s job.

He won’t be able to relate to the deputy sheriff’s he will be leading.

You can not run a law enforcement agency without being in law enforcement and know the inter-workings of the department.

Prim has had police administration experience and it is not the same thing as administration in a law office.

Harrison also wants to do things ” ALL BY HIMSELF” well anyone knows that you need other people to give suggestions, ideas etc.

NO Jimmy wants to do it all by himself.

That alone shows he doesn’t know what it takes to run a Sheriff’s department.

    Vote Prim in November

  5. 29% Harrison
    43% Prim

    Northwest Herald Pole

    Looks like Harrison is behind

  6. Headline SHOULD READ:

Mud Slinging Lawyer vs Experienced Lawman

  7. Look on the Northwest Hearld comment site .

“Meant to Be” has a good point!

Also if I / you were in a real emergency would I/you want a Lawman who could call a friend at the FBI or the DEA or the Customs/Immigration Authority or the Air One Response Team?

Or would I/you want to call a Lawyer !

    Vote Prim !

  8. Baz, Give Harrison some credit, he could always look up documents.. read them…..copy them….post them….then poll the results….and then have other people decide who to call !

    He’s just not ANY lawyer………

I vote Boots over Flip Flops

  9. Good point Bazinga,

Here are some other questions to consider:

If someone was being held hostage would you call a lawyer or call a Lawman

(Prim) who is an experienced hostage negotiator

If there was a bank robbery or prisoner riot at the jail would you call a Lawyer or call a Lawman
(Prim) who has been a Swat officer and has been a Tactical officer and Supervisor.

If there was a homicide would you call a Lawyer or a Lawman(Prim) who has worked in Homicide Units.

    Vote Prim in November

Prim knows how to delegate because he has been there.

Harrison does not have the law enforcement knowledge or hands on experience to do anything.

  10. Actually the fold in the paper article looks like Harrison is running after Prim saying

“Hey Mr. Prim, wait up, I have to ask you a question”

  11. Boycott the herald.

I have hated it since it was the Crystal Laker Herald.

Used to have the once a week Crystal Lake Times that did a much better job.

Free papers available all over the place.

Call, cancel and tell them why.

  12. Harrison is again fibbing.

He posted, now, on his facebook that he JUST learned about a survey that was in the Herald and wanted his supporters to comment.

He JUST didn’t learn about it.

Five hours earlier he posted the article from the Northwest Herald.

Your times have proven you lie. Not even a good shot from a lawyer.

You should have noticed the times you posted.

  13. Well Mr Harrison? You have some explaining to do….

Whats that saying “Never trust a lawyer?”

Well maybe, only some of the them…

Come on down and watch “The Jimmy Harrison Show”

Told you he’s a certifiable Jerry Springer shock jock!

This should be a wakeup call for the people of McHenry County.

Now let’s watch the intricate weaving of webs…

It’s going to be very, very interesting.

Calling all McHenry County residents, It is now time, for all good people to come to the aid of their county…

  14. Duncan, here is another one for the ” Jimmy Harrison Show”

Now one of Harrison’s supporters have posted that they and other Harrison supporters are being blocked from voting on the survey and they think that the votes are wrong.

    Nice try.

So how come the other people are getting through and voting.

Maybe the Harrison people are trying to vote twice.

When you are losing you have your people say they are blocked so they can’t vote.

  15. It has to Bill Prim.

You don’t want a guy who’s hero is nygren do you.

Time for a change for the better and Republican is the way to go.

I believe Bill Prim is so honest he only has one senior exemption on his real estate taxes.

There is a change from the current sheriff.

  16. I love the fact that “Duncan” finds no issue with whispering, endlessly, about some land sale and demands Harrison show some paperwork that’s already been made public (yeah, public land purchases go through bureaucratic channels), but claims the whole DPPD debacle over the forged IDOT traffic enforcement paperwork and instances of brutality and the McNamara issue have zero bearing and should be discounted outright.

A bit selective on what hand you’d like the audience to watch whilst playing magician?

I, for one, can’t wait to see the next act…

  17. I voted on the NWH poll for the first time and the results did not change, seems rigged.

    Really?

Was Prim ever chief of Des Plaines PD ?

    The answer is no.

So how could he discipline/ fire an employee for anything ?

I don’t even believe the chief could without going through the police commission.

  18. I also agree with Happy Trails

A person always trips on Flip Flops

A person is always grounded and steady in boots

  19. Has anyone read Dep. Chief Angela Burton’s internal investigation report and/or her testimony?

She lays out the command structure and function in the Des Plaines Police Department clearly.

Who can fire, discipline and evaluate employees, etc.

It is rather unlikely the next Sheriff will negotiate with hostage takers or run homicide investigations.

The have people that do that.

Flip Flops: Yep, Harrison wears them on his feet pretty often.

On the other hand, Prim flipped hard on debating.

Shredded Zinke in a press release(Taken down from Prim’s website last week. But still on this blog.) for ducking a debate AND promised to debate Harrison.

But now is running from his record, not on it.

  20. Just Joe you are simply stupid and won’t comment on such gibberish

  21. The VERY BEST Harrison can do on election day is 36%. You can take this number to Vegas.

NOBODY, NOBODY can win in McHenry County without the “R,” NOBODY!

    Ten years from now, “Maybe!”

But it won’t ever be an “Independent” until an “Independent” wins on a national level with some consistency.

    Good Day!

  22. Anyone interested in Harrison’s flip flops ( and I mean his flip flop from party to party to Independent ) as a Republican…….put…. Jim Harrison Nunda Picnic, in Cal’s search site……..scroll down…….how ironic !

Did he know then, what we know now ?

If the shoe fits … or flops ?

Just J, He wears them pretty often ?

    Really ?

In my opinion, and mine only, that’s a little nauseating.

  23. Happy Trails I just looked up the article………. Flip Flops=icky toes

  24. Jimbo, ‘all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.’

Now, Prim flaunts his resume–and every other poster here gloats over his tenure at DPPD (and some even drop his name in every other law enforcement related mention in this blog)…but, sorry, you can’t have it both ways.

Prim was a high level command staff member at DPPD–no dispute there.

Sure the Chief is the ultimate responsible party, but there’s a reason why Administration exists-to LEAD.

Every command staff member at DPPD is to blame for what happened there–you can’t conveniently compartmentalize responsibility because it doesn’t suite your agenda.

Prim’s failures to stop the brutality, failure to vette McNamara and failure to catch that IDOT debacle are his-no deflection necessary.

Chief or not, Prim has been claiming Administration experience-you can’t pick and choose what this means…his camp has thrown every MCSO misstep at the feet of Zinke (you know, the Undersheriff, not the sheriff).

    A leader doesn’t delegate responsibility…Just saying.

  25. Really? So what you are saying is that Zinke/Nygren and others are responsible for their Sgt. Pyle having sex with young boys.

Then they paid him for nine months after he was charged.

And it was called a “domestic issue” by them.

Jimmy never “supervised” anyone but his married secretary.

Married to a MCSO deputy wasn’t she? Hmm…

I hear Jimmy milked about 2.8 million dollars from the county for his brilliant legal work.

I guess that wasn’t enough, now he needs a county salary, health benefits, a Tahoe with gas, and a pension.

He must not be a very good lawyer if he can’t make more that a sheriff.

Has he ever won a case ?

He hasn’t been a cop for 25 years and left when he was still a rookie.

I hear he went out on workmens comp after hitting a deer.

Or did he just need some paid time to attend law school ?

  26. So, Jimbo, we’re still talking about Zinke?

    He lost that primary, amiright?

See little need to continue to sling mud that way anymore, but if it makes you feel better I guess.

As for Harrison’s qualifications–hey, that’s what a debate should be for, to vette out each opponent and weigh their positions, qualifications, etc.

I have zero idea who Harrison’s wife was married to and, honestly, fail to see the relevance (since you brought it up and for parity sake, is Prim married? if not, what happened there?

see how ridiculous this is? what’s it even matter?).

Now, how much he was paid for his legal work is a bit moot–it was under a different administration and I would guess, since no one made any stink then (aside from an over billing, which is provocative but was addressed by Pack and paid back, according to the media at the time), I have to conclude he earned it-unless there’s more to it.

As for winning a case, you contradict yourself a bit—a $2.8 Million dollar payday would tell me he was somewhat successful at what he did and I realize lawyers often work outside the courtroom to reach judgment in cases.

I don’t know about hitting a deer, but I read he left MCSO after 8 years, which I don’t think is quite ‘rookie’ status.

All this would be great in a debate, but nothing seems really salacious IMHO.

  27. According to Wikipedia–>

“A kickback is a form of negotiated bribery in which a commission is paid to the bribe-taker as a quid pro quo for services rendered. Generally speaking, the remuneration (money, goods, or services handed over) is negotiated ahead of time. The kickback varies from other kinds of bribes in that there is implied collusion between agents of the two parties, rather than one party extorting the bribe from the other.[1] The purpose of the kickback is usually to encourage the other party to cooperate in the illegal scheme.[2]”

Of course I am not accusing anyone of anything.

Just saying… The people are smart enough to figure it our for themselves.

    Vote for Bill Prim

    November 4, 2014

  28. It has been said, Harrison had a hurt finger and was on disability while he attended law school…

Gosh Jim, did the tax payers actually pay for that law degree of yours?

    Just asking.

A hurt finger doesn’t last years, and it certainly doesn’t warrant disability.

“The best thing a sheriff or undersheriff with rusty skills can do is stay away from a crime scene”

  29. Message to Duncan ……I’ve been boycotting the Herald for years!

We should also start boycotting its few remaining advertisers…… the poor saps are gulled by padded readership numbers.

  30. The tax payers paid for a broken finger claim?

I wonder who the workmens comp claim adjuster was.

His settlement had to be approved by the County Board and thru the Sheriff’s department at that time.

  31. “Jimbo” brings up some interesting points.

As for “really?”, when you run on a platform of honesty and integrity, you ought to be ready when your skeletons are unearthed.

From what I’ve heard, there are a lot of people who remember Jim Harrison at the MCSO and working for Pack, and not in a positive way.

  32. I think there also may be other attorneys who have worked with Harrison and have opinions of him and not in a positive way.

    Hmmmmm

  33. J’Jeff, then bring on the debate and let’s hear what both have to say.

I don’t know the circumstances behind Harrison leaving MCSO, but I am highly suspicious of a claim that a finger injury led to a publicly paid for disability pay-out.

Now, I can be wrong, perhaps he permanently injured his trigger finger, but that’s merely an assumption on my part.

What I question is how militant Prim’s supporters are-and how quick they are to pounce on anyone or anything that is not 100% pro Prim and the Prim platform.

All I am posturing for is a debate regarding the issues at hand.

Shouldn’t be any fear or concern in that, should there?
