County Employeed Health Insurance Costs to Increase

The Human Resources Committee of the McHenry County Board is scheduled to consider increasing the cost of insurance for employees (including themselves) at Tuesday’s 8:15 AM meeting.

Premiums for employees are scheduled to increase 5%.

For HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) coverage, the monthly cost to employees will rise from $59.92 to $62.92.

Family coverage will go from $223.02 to $234.17.

Just to give you an idea of the taxpayer subsidy, the family plan costs $1,486.80 a month this year.

Next year, it will be $1,561.14.

The higher option, called a PPO (Preferred Provider Option) costs $2,436.22 for family coverage this year.

Next year it will be $2,558.03.

Employee share for PPO family coverage this year is $487.24. Next year it will be $511.61.

  1. Considering the cost of health insurance the increase if fair.

    I would vote for the increase.

  2. A silver Obamacare plan premium for family of four is just under $1000 per month.

    Who is supplying this health insurance at 150% of Obamacare rates?

    Are these considered ‘Cadillac plans’, and thus subject to additional tax penalties?

    Will the County be liable for the tax penalties on Cadillac plans given to public employees (including teachers, postal, etc?)?
