Deputies’ Shooter Captured — 22 Comments

  1. Yeah! After 8 hours guarding an empty house Miller and Penna were able to figure out he escaped.

    Numb nuts.

  2. I think you are right, Oscar, but moreover this was CAUSED by sending a SWAT team for a domestic disturbance.

With the militarized police we will see (and already have seen) much more of this.

    Shame on them.

  3. Sure is easy to second guess when very few people actually know the full details.

It makes absolutely no difference as long as the guilty guy was in custody without anyone else hurt.

    Does it really?

Just hopefully one more bad guy caught no matter how that happened.

If you want to criticize then this is just one of the places for that.

  4. They didn’t send a SWAT team for a domestic disturbance!!

The SWAT team was sent later.

The two officers were sent on the call.

    Get your facts right Cindy.

  5. When you respond to a call that 2 officers have been shot and you pull up you have to assess that situation pretty fast.

You don’t know if there are hostages in the house, you don’t know a lot of things.

So people, unless you are there don’t judge the actions of other responding officers.

Situations can change in a second and your reactions to that situation is valuable to the outcome.

  6. With all of that police presence and it took local citizens to spot him walking down the street .

And why did schools not close as kids waited at bus stops at 730am and district 46 sent phone message that school was on soft lockdown at 820 am which is a little to late after kids were waiting for buses this morning .

He was taken into custody in Crystal lake and where he was near Prairie Grove school at some point coming from Holiday Hills.

  7. Cindy obviously doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

There were three officers that responded to a check on the well being of residents.

Two deputies were shot and seriously wounded.

A third deputy likely saved the lives of the first two.

It was then reinforcements were called including swat.

What would you have done Cindy, call for a counselor.

You should not comment on things you know nothing about.

All you did was show your lack of common sense and intelligence.

Every police officer and agency should be commended for their professional response to this attempted murder of those who protect all of us

  8. Our guys acted above reproach in this incident…

now is not the time to find fault with the folks who serve and protect us…

I am very thankful that these brave deputies took the bullets for us and no one else was hurt…

May God bless these servants of our county…

    they are heroes

  9. and yes, Cindy has convinced me that she is truly a knuckle head

  10. Wtg McHenry county residents for assisting the Police in capturing this guy before dinner time.

  11. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the responding officers for their service in protecting the citizens of our community.

As the day wore on, many prayers were lifted for those involved in this horrible incident, particularly the gunned-down officers and their loved ones.

I was, at first, a bit doubtful that the shooter would be fast apprehended.

So many criminals seem to simply disappear, to never face justice. Thank you so much for your commitment and vigilence in apprehending this man.

A communal sigh of relief sounded throughout McHenry County at the news of capture.

Continued prayers for all involved. Job very well done, Sirs and Madams Deputies.

  12. One officer is reported to have been shot in the abdomen.

It is well known that the worst call the police can respond is a ‘domestic’.

Frequently all of the participants in the ‘domestic’ turn their anger toward the outsider – the police.

What this case tells me is that yet again we have another example of failure displayed on the part of the Sheriff.

Why are deputies sent on domestic calls with inadequate body armor?

When officers respond to a ‘domestic’ they should be fully armored all the way down to below the crotch.

Most gun shots to the legs are not fatal but an abdomen or head shot is frequently fatal.

I do not believe too many taxpayers would complain about the costs of full body armor in place of paying for the operation of a vehicle which is normally used in a WAR ZONE!

That said, I am totally against ‘no knock’ warrants.

There is no possible justification, in my mind, for a ‘no knock warrant – ONLY POLICE states engage in such a practice.

  13. Ouch, Jeff.

    You’ve wounded an old woman.

How very proud and manly you must feel.

  14. Without knowing all the details, I would guess that since the call came from Michigan the dispacther at SECOM was not able to ask the caller if there were weapons present, or in the house, which I believe they normally do on all DV kind of calls…given that additional information it may have led to an entirely different approach to the call.

This was a “well being” call, which may or may not require the same kind of response to a DV with weapons in the house….either way these officers were ambushed and there is little that can be done to prevent an all out ambush.

Thank god there was a third officer able to provide cover and call for aid.

  15. What do you learn in basic 101 Law Enforcement when it comes to scene protection ?

Start the perimeter as wide you can first !…..The structure is the easiest to contain, . Point A, B, and D..Once you have that in place, have everyone else speed out .

By the time the useless Nygren spoke of the “Grid search “, it was way way way to late.

There were over 100 officers deployed to the scene.

Thats at least 50 of them to use as perimeter containment.

The south containment should have been along the river at Portens.

Then once that officer secure, then take over Rt 176, staggering Officers every few blocks to prevent the suspect from crossing it.

    Barrelville Road on the west.

Once secured, then secure Valley View Road..

Once in place, then have officers secure Nish road, followed by Wright Road, Then Riverdale subdivision…

You see where I’m going with this, …

Zinke and Nygren think..rather than look at each other like..duh..

Instead you left it up to the citizens to find this shooter.

It’s obvious you knew that he would be heading to his friends house right?

So why not have that path completely shut off for him to travel on ?

You both belong in the retired police officers nursing home your so outdated

  16. Did they use K9 to try and reverse track this guys path from the point he was captured to try and find that AR15 he dumped someplace along the way?

I’m sure its locked and loaded sitting in a woods somewhere along the escape route he took.

But knowing Nygren and “foil a drug bust and give the finger” Zinke, they’re still trying to opine for cameras and the papers.

Sure glad Keith is leaving and Zinke aint moving up.

Poor guy lost by enough votes to truly say that finger giving at the parade did him in…idiot.

  17. There’s only way to get east of the river..

Either cross the Rt 176 bridge, or swim across the river…

Zinke and Nygren should have made sure both of these routes were contained..

But nope, lets just sit at the bar on River road parking lot to get our fat faces on media.

  18. The facts…I would think the first lesson of your 101 LE Class is to tend to the wounded, then secure the scene.

    Time is an element.

    When did the offender abscond?

I would hazard to guess, shortly after engaging the initial responding Deputies.

Now, I’d be willing to bet the cavalry-most likely-arrived after the offender was gone.

I have no first hand knowledge, just common sense.

Lastly, just because Zinke and Nygren were on-scene, is not to say they were either present when the perimeter was established or took over command.

I would hazard to guess, again, that since SWAT is a very specialized unit-the SWAT commanders called the shots, but again I have no first hand knowledge.

It’s really easy to MMQ a situation from the comforts of home but to be there whilst it is developing and add to the dynamics, context and stress and often times the end product doesn’t quite favor everything that went into it.

  19. A warning:

It is too bad that so many commentators on here have their heads firmly up their backside.

It seems many are singing the praises of the the exact enemy that perpetrated this horrific scenario. Read between the lines and put your thinking caps on.

In every piece of propaganda from whatever source you have only one side of this story. The story you have been fed.

Now consider this: A wellness check was requested by an unknown man. How did that spiral into this fiasco at 1:30 in the morning?

When the authorities arrived at this man’s home, he repeatedly told them to leave and that everything was fine. (Think about that one for a few minutes.)

No one knows what was said after he told them to leave his property repeatedly. (Think about trespass laws.)

No one knows why he began to shoot through the door. (Whenever I ask as to how someone is doing I hardly ever corner them into being frightened and force them to lash out.)

The propaganda was told that they had the wife and daughter safely removed from the home.

The truth is that the wife was dragged from her bed to be interrogated for over five hours at he police station. (Is that the way you like to be wakened?)

Yes, I realize that what I write here is hearsay.

If you were not there, then everything you have garnered from so-called “news” reports is also hearsay.

Before you sing the wa-hoo-dor-ays praises and go quietly hand-in-hand with the evil doers – think. Your life and your very future very much depend on it.

This family’s lives have been forever changed by something that spun out of control because of nothing they did.

Yet, the people on here seem to think it’s all good.

    Think people.

Stop following the leader into the abyss.

  20. Cindy, you now have gone over the edge.

You say the women was dragged out of her bed and interrogated for over 5 hours?

I hope your kids are reading what you write so they can get the right medication for you, and I’m not trying to be funny ,or if you actually believe what you are writing?

  21. voter? You have no idea what you are talking about.

Your condescension does not change the facts.

Start thinking with your head instead.
