Continued Over Taxation for Valley Hi in County Budget

This little graphic tells the story of continuing over taxation by the McHenry County Board:

Valley Hi’s cash on hand since 2006

The justification is that voters approved the collection of about $6 million a year in a referendum vote early this century.

The argument used by those who think government has first call on people’s money is that failure to levy millions, whether or not it is spent, would mean that those millions could never be taxed again…without passage of another referendum.

Referendums have been difficult to pass recently, so one can understand that point of view of government officials.

However, there is another side to the question, that of the taxpayers’.

So, for the benefit of taxpayers, I publish that part of the proposed McHenry County budget that, if passed, will take another $3 million out of the pockets of local property owners.

The County Board is being asked to approve $3 million in taxes for Valley Hi next year, even though over $35 million remains unspent.

Note that $3 million is to be taxed, but only $187,198 is proposed to be spent.

  1. I wonder if there is a Board member who is willing to propose a budget amendment which removes the income for the tax from the budget and if approved or not will be willing to propose a referendum ending the tax?

With complete socialization of our medical system, why does the County want to stay in the Nursing Home Business?
