The McHenry County College Board was split 4-3 last year on whether or not to collect the same amount of money this year as the year before.

Since then tax fighter Tom Wilbeck has moved slightly out of the district, forcing his resignation.

Appointed to replace him was Lakewood’s Michael Smith.

If the three votes for a constant budget–Molly Walsh, Ron Parrish and Chris Jenner–vote the same way this year as they did last year, Smith represents the swing vote on the issue.

To remain on the Board he must run for election next April.

Smith ran at the last election, but was unsuccessful.

McHenry County College collects about 4% of the property taxes in McHenry County, but because Districts 300 and 220 are in the Elgin Community College District the percentage is higher if you live in MCC’s boundaries.

  1. You don’t know the facts Mike? Come on!

You ran 2 years ago claiming to know the facts.

Let me give a quick refresh prior to you viewing the archived videos of the meetings.

The college has been fiscally sound the past 2 years.

My last meeting was a vote to freeze the levy.

    It changed in 1 month?

The college is facing decreased enrollment for the future.

Administrative positions have increased and are vague in description and responsibility.

This was presented a few months back.

The college has 27% of it’s classes having less than 12 students.

The college is utilized less than 30% of capacity EVERY Friday.

Taxes cannot continue to increase for no purpose.

    Continued increases are not sustainable.

    And you need facts?

    Check your real-estate tax bill.

    Come on?

You mentioned the word “fiduciary” dozens of times during your campaign.

I question you know the meaning of that word.

ALL trustees have a fiduciary responsibility to the people of McHenry county and the students to guide them in a responsible and “fiduciary” way.

Get off the middle ground Mike and show the people who you actually are.

Miller and Kisser are out of touch.

  2. Like I said earlier, now that Mike Smith is on the board. It is business as usually without anyone asking common sense questions.
